OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Scattered showers and thunderstorm rolled across portions of central and southeast Nebraska this morning, with light showers lingering into the afternoon. The clouds and showers kept temperatures on the cool side for mid-August, only reaching the upper 70s around the Omaha metro, while temperatures over central Nebraska only warmed into the upper 60s and low 70s. Most of the rain shower activity remained just outside of the immediate metro area, but a few showers or sprinkles will remain possible through the early evening as a band of rain continues from around Columbus to Nebraska City. That band of rain should fade away with time, most areas should be dry by around 8pm.

As the rain fades away, skies should begin to slowly clear out as well. The clearing skies combined with light winds will mean another relatively cool night, as temperatures dip into the low 70s by 10pm, and fall into the low 60s by early Monday. That will mean another very nice morning across the area. We will see more sunshine on Monday, and that means temperatures will warm a bit quicker. We should be around 80 by Noon, with afternoon highs in the mid-80s.

Another small, quick moving storm system will slide by the area on Tuesday. This system has become a little more substantial in recent forecast data, and may be able to kick out some scattered showers or storms on Tuesday. The afternoon forecast now looking a little more similar to what we saw today, with clouds and a few showers helping to keep temperatures a bit cooler.

Sunnier, warmer, and drier weather returns for Wednesday and Thursday, though it should still be relatively comfortable with highs in the mid-80s. We start to heat up by Friday with highs in the upper 80s, and a stretch of 90s is possible over the weekend as we get a little taste of some more summer heat. The warmth likely lingers into the start of next week before cooling slightly.
