David’s Morning Forecast - Sunny and hot Saturday afternoon
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A few showers passed south of the Omaha metro early on Saturday sending some clouds our direction, but the metro area stayed dry. The showers will fade away by 8am, with clouds clearing out by mid-morning as well leaving behind plenty of sunshine. This will mean quickly warming temperatures, we’ll be climbing into the mid-80s by Noon with afternoon highs likely topping out around 90 degrees.
Humidity levels aren’t too bad this morning, but we will see an increase in the humidity throughout the day. That means we will have to talk about the heat index for the first time in a little while. By Noon, the heat index will likely be around 90 degrees, and should top out around 98 degrees this afternoon. The heat index driven by the combination of heat and humidity making it difficult for your body to keep itself cool.
The heat only intensified for Sunday with sunny skies remaining. We will see a light southeast breeze, so that may provide some slight relief, but likely won’t do a whole lot in the hottest parts of the day. Highs likely reach the upper 90s Sunday afternoon. Monday looks just as hot, with a high around 98 degrees. Some spots, especially just southwest of Omaha, could approach triple digits.
The humidity will remain on the higher side through the weekend and into early next week, meaning the heat index will climb even higher. Both Sunday and Monday will likely see peak heat index readings around or just above 105 degrees in the metro. Some areas may even be slightly hotter. Temperatures should drop a few degrees for Tuesday and Wednesday, but it won’t bring significant relief. A cold front finally arrives by next Thursday bring a chance for storms and somewhat cooler weather for the end of next week.
