OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Very hot and humid conditions pushed into the area Sunday afternoon. Full sunshine and a south to southwest wind helped to bring some of the hottest air of the summer to the Omaha metro. Afternoon high temperatures topped out around 100 degrees in town, even hotter toward Lincoln where it hit 104 degrees. Temperatures were slightly cooler just to the north of I-80, and east of the Missouri River in Iowa where highs reach the low to mid-90s. However, incredibly humid conditions produced heat index readings around 110 degrees for just about the entire area. Temperatures will only slowly cool this evening, still holding onto 90 degrees at 9pm.

We should see some limited relief from the heat by Monday morning as temperatures cool into the mid-70s. However, Monday will likely be just as hot as Sunday was. Temperatures will warm back to around 90 degrees by Noon, and continue to warm into the upper 90s for the late afternoon and early evening. Highs likely top out near 100 degrees around the metro, with slightly hotter weather just to the southwest for Lincoln and Beatrice.

Along with the heat, it will remain humid for Monday. However, humidity levels may drop just slightly, so the heat index may not be quite as extreme. Still, it will be very hot in the afternoon with the heat index expected to top out between 105 and 110 degrees. Use caution if you’ll be outside for extended periods of time, make sure to stay hydrated and take breaks from the heat in the shade or the A/C if you can.

Humidity levels should drop slightly. There may be an isolated thunderstorm in the afternoon, but most of the area should stay dry.

Highs should drop into the mid-80s for Friday and the upcoming weekend.
