David’s Morning Forecast - Very hot and humid Sunday

Heating up quickly today with sunny skies. Very hot and humid for the afternoon with highs around 97, but a heat index closer to 107 degrees.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A warm and humid start to Sunday, temperatures in the low to mid-70s with a noticeable layer of humidity. Skies a bit hazy, but otherwise expect generally sunny skies throughout the morning, and right on into the afternoon. Temperatures will quickly warm, into the low 80s already by 10am with readings around 90 by Noon. Afternoon highs will be about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday, topping out around 96 or 97 degrees in the Omaha metro. It may be even slightly hotter than that just west of the metro toward Lincoln and Beatrice.

Humidity levels will remain on the high side today as well, though perhaps just slightly lower than yesterday. Still, that will produce heat index readings around 10 degrees higher than yesterday, meaning the heat index this afternoon and early this evening likely peaks around 105 to 107 degrees in the metro. Make sure you are staying hydrated and take breaks from the heat when you can if you will be spending a long period of time outdoors.

Clear skies overnight will bring limited relief from the heat, overnight lows likely only fall into the mid-70s once again. Monday will bring more very hot and humid conditions, temperatures quickly jumping back into the 90s by the afternoon. Highs will be just as hot as today, if not slightly hotter. However, humidity levels will be slightly lower resulting in heat index readings once again around 105 to 107 degrees.

Temperatures will dip slightly for Tuesday and Wednesday as a weak cold front slips through. We’ll still see highs in the 90s, but it will be closer to 92 or 94 degrees, rather than the upper 90s. Humidity levels will drop slightly as well, but we could still see heat index readings close to 100 degrees at times.

A stronger cold front will move through on Thursday, bringing scattered thunderstorms by the afternoon and evening. It’s possible some of the storms could be on the stronger side, so stay tuned for updates through the week. Slightly cooler air will filter in behind the front, dropping highs in the the low to mid-80s for Friday and the upcoming weekend.
