Raiola: 'Buckle up. It's going to be a fun ride'
Freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola takes the podium ahead of his first collegiate start.
LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Saturday marks the true beginning of the Dylan Raiola era of Nebraska football. Four days out from the Huskers season opener against UTEP, the Big Red’s true freshman starting quarterback had a message for fans:
“Buckle up. It’s going to be a fun ride.”
When Saturday rolls around and Raiola takes the field at Memorial Stadium in front of 90,000 people and the nerves start to set in, the 19-year-old QB says he’s going to trust his training, trust his teammates, and just play the game he’s played since he was a kid.
“Teams will have their different ways of coming after us and coming after a young quarterback, which is fine. That’s part of the game and growing up fast,” said Raiola. “I’m excited for the challenge of every team and it starts Saturday.”
“He’s a young pro. He’s always going to get better, better, better,” said offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield. “There’s still maturing he’s going to have to do, but he attacks it like a pro.”
Raiola’s ability to throw a deep ball when needed and extend plays, along with Satterfield’s vision for a more creative offense could have the Huskers looking like the Chiefs by the end of the season.
Nebraska kicks off against UTEP at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 31st.
