OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - 6 News Daybreak has the headlines you need to know to get your Friday started.

Omaha Police investigating shooting, cutting overnight

Police responded to an incident Friday morning after a man was reportedly cut near Omaha’s Midtown.

OPD tells 6 News that they found the victim, a middle-aged Black male, with a puncture wound in his abdomen. He was taken to the hospital.

6 News is working to hear what led to the incident.

In another incident, one person died and another is injured after a shooting in South Omaha late Thursday.

Officers responded to the scene just before 10:30 p.m. to the area of Q and South 48th Streets.

The first victim was found and declared dead after authorities arrived.

The second shooting victim was found a few blocks away and was taken to the hospital.

Pedestrian hospitalized after being hit by car in Elkhorn

One person is in the hospital after they were hit by a car late Thursday night.

The incident happened just before 10 p.m. near 204th and Pacific Streets in Elkhorn.

6 News is working to hear word on the extent of the victim’s injuries.

Crews fight early morning house fire in North Omaha

OFD responded to an early morning fire Friday in North Omaha.

They were called to a home near North 28th Avenue and Grant Street just after 12:40 a.m.

No injuries have been reported.

Coverage of Nebraska Supreme Court rulings Friday

On Friday, the Nebraska Supreme Court is expected to rule on three ballot petition decisions.

Arguments on abortion and school vouchers ballot issues were presented in court earlier this week.

Nebraska’s “single subject rule” has came into question on both of these subjects.

The first case looks to toss the petition to protect abortion rights while the second wants both abortion petitions to remain on the ballot.

The third case deals with tossing the petition to repeal Nebraska’s new school choice law.

The ballot must be finalized Friday for what Nebraskans will be voting on in Nov.

Coverage of Revenue Committee discussing LB34

6 News is expecting to learn more about Nebraska’s new tax law, LB34, that was passed during the special session in Aug.

The Revenue Committee is holding a press conference at 11:15 a.m. Friday to address this topic.

State senators say that LB34 could result in higher 2024 property taxes if the Unicameral doesn’t act quickly.

The committee said they plan to “share additional facts and details about LB34″ in their meeting Friday morning.

Coverage of lawsuit challenging medical marijuana petitions

A lawsuit was filed Thursday that challenges two medical marijuana petitions.

This lawsuit comes ahead of the certification of Nebraska’s medical marijuana ballot initiatives on Friday.

The complaint alleges that the petitions contain invalid signatures and are insufficient for a number of other reasons.

Nebraska AG Mike Hilgers will be hosting a virtual news conference Friday about the falsification of voter signatures in the petition process.

The zoom conference will be at 9:30 a.m.

It is unclear if Hilgers’ conference is related to this topic.
