Grocery store fire closes N. Alston Avenue between Holloway Street and Taylor Street in Durham

A Durham grocery store went up in flames Wednesday morning.

N. Alston Avenue is closed between Holloway Street and Taylor Street due to a fire in the 700 block of N. Alston Avenue, Durham police said on X Wednesday morning.

At 5:57 a.m., the Durham Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at the corner of N. Alston Avenue and Liberty Street. When fire crews arrived, the EZ Mini Mart at 702 N. Alston Avenue was engulfed in flames.

The fire department said 48 firefighters responded and had the fire under control in less than 15 minutes. Firefighters on scene are continuing to search through the debris. There are no reported injuries at this time.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
