Filming for a popular TV series, "The Summer I Turned Pretty," will begin Monday at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

A statement from UNC communications said several roads will be closed between Friday, July 5, and Friday, July 12. Filming will take place July 8-10.

The filming will largely take place outdoors on McCorkle Place, which is near the Old Well and the Davie Poplar, and inside surrounding buildings, according to UNC. Traffic in the area will be detoured, and pedestrians may be rerouted by police. It's best to avoid the area.

Drivers should anticipate closures along areas of East Franklin Street between Raleigh Street and South Columbia Street. The following closures will take place:

  • Henderson Street will be closed between East Rosemary Street and East Franklin Street
  • South Columbia Street will be closed between West Franklin Street and South Road
  • East Cameron Avenue will be closed between Pittsboro Street and Raleigh Street
  • Raleigh Street will experience rolling closures between East Cameron Avenue and Raleigh Street
  • East Cameron Avenue will be closed between South Columbia Street and Raleigh Street

Additionally, the following parking areas will be closed for daytime, weeknight and visitor parking:

  • Caldwell and Bynum Circle parking lots
  • Swain parking lot
  • Old East parking lot
  • Raleigh Street metered parking

The university released the following statement:

"We are proud of our beautiful and historic campus and work with production companies to accommodate their requests when we are able. We understand that these closures may cause inconvenience, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this time."

The main characters in the Amazon Prime series are about to enter college, which is why they're filming at UNC.

In 2022, WRAL News interviewed Mackenzie Hicks, an Apex girl was cast as a younger version of the main character, Belly, on the show.

The show is based on a popular book trilogy about a love triangle between a teenage girl and two boys. It's even garnered the interest of Taylor Swift, whose music is featured on the show.
