Commemorating 30th anniversary of the Marrakesh Agreement
The Marrakesh Agreement establishing the World Trade Organization was signed by 123 countries on 15 April 1994, leading to the birth of the WTO on 1 January 1995. Over the past 30 years, the WTO has helped to bring about a major expansion in global trade, with the objective of raising living standards, increasing employment and promoting sustainable development. "Thirty years ago, over 120 countries united with a shared vision: to transform the world through trade," WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said in a video to mark the anniversary.
