Summer music swings back into full throttle this weekend, after the July 4th weekend slowdown, with lots of options for fans.

THURSDAY, July 11:  Maine songwriter Howie Day coming to City Winery

Maine songwriter Howie Day celebrates the 20th anniversary of his most popular record, "Stop All the World Now," with two nights at City Winery in Boston. The always unpredictable Aquabats! rock out at Big Night Live in Boston. Mates of State – and yes the core of the band is a husband-wife duo – brings their indie pop to The Sinclair in Cambridge. The Baker-Thomas Band warms up The Lizard Lounge in Cambridge. Bluegrass, folk, and more with Mattie and Debbie at Club Passim in Harvard Square. Through the Doors – a tribute to the Doors – at The Music Room in Yarmouth.

FRIDAY, July 12:  Voyage coming to the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset

Voyage brings the music of Journey to the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset. A 6 p.m. start for the free outdoor concert with the Divas With a Twist – pop, jazz, and more – at The Ruth Gordon Amphitheater in Quincy.  Reggae rules when Grateful Dub (reggae takes on Dead classics) and Roots of Creation burn at Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke. The Dave Matthews Band jams at Xfinity Center in Mansfield. Irish rockers The Saw Doctors begin a two-night stint at MGM Music Hall in Boston, and get there early for Dublin rockers The Coronas. Peter Wolf's show at the Narrows Center in Fall River is sold out. The Hipshot Band gets you moving at the free outdoor concert at The Launch in Hingham Harbor. The C Note in Hull hosts a benefit for Buddy Cruises – cruises for special needs kids – with several local bands, including Glass Divide, The Envoys and Sickbay. Folk-rock from Lyme, Connecticut, is what you get when The Brazen Youth hit Brighton Music Hall. Rockin' For Ralph – a multi-act benefit for the family of The District Center for the Arts' soundman Ralph Morris, who died suddenly, is worth a trip to Taunton. Beantown blues might be the theme for The Fallout Shelter in Norwood, which has a double-bill of guitar ace Peter Parcek and singer Danielle Miraglia. Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame songsmith, ex-leader of the Raindogs and The Schemers, and driving force behind The Same Thing Project, Mark Cutler and his Men of Great Courage acoustic band hits Nickanee's in Providence, Rhode Island. Dead to the Core – acoustic Grateful Dead covers – at Club Passim in Cambridge. One of Boston's first, and best, ska bands, Bim Skala Bim, at The Music Room in Yarmouth. Nikki Glaser's comedy show at the Cape Cod Melody Tent sold out the day after her participation in the Tom Brady roast, so tickets are gone, but Tom was on the Cape last week, so maybe he'll stop in for a rematch? (We're guessing no.)

Pop/rock songwriter Ben Folds brings his Paper Airplane Request Tour to Memorial Hall in Plymouth, and we're guessing the setlist will be spontaneous and fun.  The Boston Comedy Blowout arrives at the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, helmed by Tony V, not only an OG Boston comedy legend, but still a hilarious off-the-wall comic. The Fat City Band returns to the scene of some of their most incendiary gigs, The C Note in Hull. Rockin' Americana when The Larsen band, with Miss Julia Violet, heats up Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke. Martin Sexton sings in a vineyard; what's not to like? – at the Westport Rivers Vineyard. 50 Cent raps at Big Night Live. Whammer Jammer – a J.Geils Band tribute – lights up The District Center for the Arts in Taunton. Power pop when Prince Daddy & the Hyena shake up Brighton Music Hall. Third Eye Blind, with Yellowcard, rock Xfinity Center in Mansfield. Plenty of Americana talent when Dayna Kurtz sings at the Narrows Center in Fall River, with former Continental Drifter Robert Mache' on guitar. Demola the Violinist does Afrobeat, reggae, hip-hop and pop, and has two shows to enliven City Winery in Boston. New York State roots band The Felice Brothers are at The Sinclair in Cambridge. Hobo Johnson and the Lovemakers rock out at The House of Blues in Boston. Tik Tok star, songwriter JXDN, aka Jaden Hossler to his pals in Chattanooga, Tennessee, gets Royale in Boston hopping. The Fallout Shelter in Norwood welcomes a night of world music, with Mamou Sidiki Diabate and Salif Bomakara, two virtuosos at the kora, the 12-stringed African instrument. The Free Radicals rock Nickanee's in Providence, Rhode Island. Folk singer Erin Ash Sullivan at Club Passim in Cambridge. The Yellowhouse Blues Band gets down at The Music Room in Yarmouth.

SUNDAY, July 14:  Tribute show at John Alden Sportsman's Club in Plymouth

Get an early start for Rhythm Room Afternoons at the John Alden Sportsman's Club in Plymouth, where the 1 p.m. show is Mark Hummel's tribute to the late Little Walter, the king of blues harmonica, and the superb Hummel has Texas guitarist Anson Funderburgh with him. MGM Music Hall in Boston has a good one Sunday night, with Elvis Costello and Daryl Hall joining forces; while R&B singer Eric Roberson heats up City Winery in Boston; Eight to the Bar's swingin' jive at The Music Room in Yarmouth; and Latin hip-hop/pop with San Francisco's La Dona at Brighton Music Hall.

JULY 19: Phish opens a three-night stand at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield; while The Pretenders rock MGM Music Hall in Boston.

JULY 20: Joan Osborne returns to the Narrows Center in Fall River; while country star Kane Brown takes over Fenway Park in Boston.

JULY 21: John Lodge from the Moody Blues brings his solo band to Memorial Hall in Plymouth.
