Shoppers sift through unusual, unique items at Chicago’s iconic Maxwell Street Market
CHICAGO — A Summer staple is back on the street where it all started 100 years ago.
For those looking for unusual and unique items, Chicago’s iconic Maxwell Street Market is the place to be.
The market, which has changed locations over the years, has returned to its original home along Maxwell Street, near Halsted and surrounding streets, and about 40 vendors came out on Sunday.

David Petty III, who started out selling hair clippers at the market about 25 years ago, said he was excited to return to the cobblestone-lined Maxwell Street for the market’s 112th year.
“We appreciate the fact that they let us come over here on the old Maxwell Street and start the market again,” Petty said.
From nostalgic books to unique art, old comic books, as well as food and drinks, there is something here for just about everyone.
“I’m going to go check out that coffee table before I leave. I love coffee,” shopper Scottie Willis said.

Maxwell Street Market will operate six market days during the 20024 season, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the last Sunday of each month through Oct. 27.
The market is located on Maxwell Street between South Halsted Street and South Union Avenue and on Spouth Union Avenue between West Rochford Street and West Liberty Street.
