Delicious food. This was the best French toast I have ever eaten. The bread was so soft and had hints of banana. I could eat this French toast everyday. Our waitress was so sweet and never missed a beat; she even packed our leftovers for us. The chilaquiles were a bit soggy and salty for my taste; however, the eggs were fried perfectly.

My first visit. Being 8 months young you would never know it. The atmosphere, service, and food speak of experience and knowledge.
Made a reservation that can be done on their website or through Yelp on to their site. Easy to use and set a you get a confirmation email.
I am a Mole fan. Mole is challenging to make and easy to do wrong. I ordered the Mayan Mole Con Pollo. When presented it looked to good to eat. Good news is the flavor and dish was far more enjoyable then the well presented dish. The rice was soft. The chicken was moist. The Mole, all I can say is WOW!
I paired the dish with a Mexican wine Cavas Valamar. I agree with other Yelp reviews I never thought of Mexico for a excellent wine. I stand amazed like others and hope the craze catches on and grows. Cavas Valamar was a red that and with the Pollo was a match of tastiness.
I enjoyed my visit, learning about the food and wine, and received excellent service. I can't wait to be back. Thank you Cantina Los Mayas.Helpful 3Thanks 3Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ryan T.Merced Heights, San Francisco, CA58476Apr 7, 2024
It's a very fancy tequila wine bar. It's good - nothing wrong with it. But you're essentially paying an SF premium because of the aesthetic as well. A cool date spot if you ask me. Not a family kind of thing but you can if you wanted to with y'all folks if they still drink. Service is good - nothing to note of anything crazy.
The food is alright but Hispanic food in the city is touch for SoCal quality cuz I mean y'all already know why. Would go again but as a double date and on the off chance my wife wants to go here when she's craving fancy Hispanic food while wanting to dress all nice. I realized my description prior makes it look like this place is fancy fancy. It ain't like suit and tie. You can do carhart here.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Jan 16, 2023
Tried Cantina Los Mayas for the first time with some friends and it was a wonderful experience! Service was very friendly and attentive and the food was very delicious.
We ordered guac and ceviche for the table which were both incredible. I had the molcajete which was overflowing with meaty goodness. It was only serviced with 3 tortillas but I think it's because they're made in house. I ended up only using 2 of the tortillas because there was so much proteins to fill me up. Charring on the shrimps were spot on and the pork belly slapped.
Salsas for the table we're also amazing. My only gripe is that the chip dishes are so tiny. I think I personally ate 2-3 servings and our table of 4 collectively had around 6 servings.
Prices are on the higher end (around $40) per entree but you can't beat the flavor or quality. All in all, I'd say Cantina Los Mayas is yummy certified.Helpful 6Thanks 2Love this 3Oh no 0 - Allyson F.Saratoga, CA29228Apr 18, 2024
Came for SF Restaurant week and can't wait to return!
Food highlights:
- Aguachile: perfect combo of spice and citrus (not on daily menu)
- Molcajete mixto: amazing clay pot surf and turf with an orange salsa and fresh tortillas
- Sikil pak Mayan and salsa dip trio: could eat this every day
Service: attentive, food came quickly
Vibe: bustling, but calm
We also ordered the Salbut with pork and Panucho with carne asada. The puree over the Pipian Con Pato (seared duck) was fantastic. And the Mayan Mole Con Pollo had great depth of flavor. Meats are tender and sauces are delicious. We finished off with some churros, which arguably give Jack in the box a run for its money.
Will be back to try more (or maybe for more of the same), and some wine too!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gregory P.South San Francisco, CA1398Jun 24, 2024
We have been coming here since they opened, and they've only gotten better with time. Their attention to the complex flavor profiles of their food, sauces, and even their cocktails is outstanding. The service is always friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. And there is definitely a concerted effort to profile Mexican regional wines, and spirits along with traditional cuisine. It's a little gem and worth any travel to check it out. The salsas and guacamole are to die for!

Food, service and ambiance!
The food is unique yet classic, and always delicious.
The drinks and the way they are served are just as exciting and artistic as the food.
And now they do brunch! BTW it's as inventive and scrumptious as dinner.
The picture is of our impromptu Bday brunch today.
Thanks to the wonderful wait staff and chef Juve!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 6, 2022
This place is a great find. My friend and I were looking to try a new restaurant and she picked Cantina Los Mayas. The menu can be a bit overwhelming - we shared the ceviche peninsula (white fish), panuchos (Mayan Crispy Taco) and empanada as appetizers, roasted Cornish hen and fried Branzino for our entrees and the sorbet with truffles as our dessert.
Everything was really tasty. Highly recommend all of the appetizers we had. The ceviche had a lot of meat and the juice was fantastic (I really liked the mango flavor in it). The panuchos is a must order and the cochinita pibil (pork) was nicely marinated. The crab empanada was unique and excellent. For entree, I highly recommend that fried branzino (also came with some shrimp and scallops). The dessert that we had - sorbet with truffle was a nice and light way to end a great dining experience. Tamarind agua fresca was my non-alcoholic beverage for the evening. I also really liked the chips and salsa - they have thin home made chips and three salsas including one that is "mole"-like that was just amazing.
Service was good but this place gets a bit busy. The restaurant itself is really nice and well laid out. They have counter seats with tables up front as well as the back. We were seated in the back room and it can get really loud. With tax and tip, this was about $100 per person. Highly recommended!!!Helpful 17Thanks 3Love this 10Oh no 1 - Theresa H.San Francisco, CA656Feb 17, 2024
Such a great place to have in the neighborhood! I went with 5 friends- a rare moms' night out. Liza was our server and she was so knowledgable and helpful. We had questions about everything- cocktails and food- because we're not super familiar with a lot of the ingredients. I think we got every appetizer they have! Lots of things come in 2s, but Liza sent things in 3s so we could share them among our party of 6. We only got 1 main course but we honestly got like 12 appetizers. Everyone was really blown away- even with the coffee at the very end!
We were stuffed. Even the cocktails felt like they were generous sizes.
Really fun night!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2145296Jan 14, 2023
I my girlfriend and I had been looking for a Mexican restaurant in the city and Cantina Los Mayas definitely delivered an authentic Mexican experience.
I started out with the Mexican spritz which was refreshing. For the appetizer, we started with the quesadilla con cochinita pibil and the other with nopales. The quesadillas used Oaxaca cheese which was excelente .
The main course included the piña loca which was a served in a pineapple with delicious grilled shrimp and fish. The second main was a fried branzino which was fresh and lightly bartered. Usually when fish is fried the batter overwhelmes the fish, but in this case the branzino taste came through.
To cap of an excellent dinner, we tried various dessert, including the churros, the homemade ice cream and the habanero truffle which is definitely worth a taste.
Will definitely be coming back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
