Best Dj's... with variety. Every Monday night there is a rotation ...Your fav EBM, Classic goth, industrial and more. Two rooms for dancing and more on special event nights.
People are chill - reserved as might be expected at any similar club... but friendly if you make conversation.
They go the extra mile with decorations , cool lighting effects and occasional vendors that offer some nice adornments at reasonable prices.
A must for any Goth or 'Darker Spirit' looking for a awesome dancing!

Congratulations On More Than Two Decades Of Manic Industrial DJ Dancin Fun!
SITREP
On the occasion of their 23rd Anniversary Celebration, DEATH GUILD is throwing a wild-ass four (4)-day party to appropriately give justice to the music-AWESOME we've enjoyed these many years.
THE SETUP
The DNA Lounge - the home of Death Guild for about a decade now - has thrown open not only the main dance floor and the upstairs lounge, but has also opened up the two remaining upstairs venues to celebrate this special occasion.
In fact, in addition to the main DJ-promotion team of DJ Melting Girl, DJ Decay, DJ Joe Radio and DJ Sage, several other DJs and promoters have come together to help with the festivities, including DJ Adrian (BOOTIE) and Emcee Jim Sweeney (Hubba Hubba Revue).
The result has been a cavalcade of lots of talented dancers, burlesque artists, DJs, and other showpeople.
THE SWAG
Along with the V.I.P. entry is a bag of swag that includes 5 Compilation CDs worth of mixed music (one by each DJ), a Death Guild combo cigarette lighter & bottle opener, and Death Guild dog tag. Sweet sweet swag.
THE LOWDOWN
A fun time in the old dance club tonight!Helpful 28Thanks 0Love this 27Oh no 0May 17, 2011Previous reviewThe Best Weekly Industrial-EBM-Gothic-Darkwave Dance Scene in Northern California!
SITREP
I've been going to Death Guild since my dear friend Leah first brought me to it in San Francisco back in 1999 when it resided then at the MANHATTAN LOUNGE at 3rd & Market. Back then, it was an incredible subterranean lair of "dark music magic" and incredible dancing energy.
And even though it has moved through several different venues in the meantime - including Big Heart City (gone), Glas Kat (formerly the Tracadero, and where it started) - it has found a great home at THE DNA LOUNGE at 11th & Harrison and still remains a MONDAY NIGHT institution.
"Back in the Day"
Ironically, I never made it to Death Guild in it's very early days because in the mid-90s I was a loyal patron of the legendary House of Usher club "RODERICKS CHAMBER". Coming from Sacramento to enjoy the music madness & dancing nights was hard enough to do one night. But with Death Guild on Monday nights and Rodericks Chamber on Tuesday nights, I opted to follow most of my friends' leads and went to Rodericks Chamber at City Lights.
However, I was excited to try Death Guild when my friend Leah seduced me with her charming ways and I've been hooked to Death Guild ever since.
DG MOVERS & SHAKERS
A HUGE shout out to DJ-Promoter DAVID KING (aka DJ DECAY) for making Death Guild what it was in the beginning and what it continues to be: an exciting alternative scene for those sick of the crap put out by mainstream pop culture.
David firmly has his foot in the alternative scenes of San Francisco, and as one other expression of this passion, the Death Guild music scene also manifests itself as the "THUNDERDOME Camp" at BURNING MAN every year. So the energy from Burning Man in a very real & tangible way is also expressed and experienced at Death Guild.
Two additional VIPs in the Death Guild music-arsenal are DJ JOE RADIO and DJ MELTING GIRL. These two stalwart music professionals provide the MUSIC BACKBONE of the club and it is their energy that brings hundreds and thousands of frantic club dancers back ever year, every month AND EVERY WEEK!
DANCING MADNESS
You will find an amazing selection of music formats and DJs from week to week in both the main downstairs room, or in the upper lounge.
Two other VERY notable DJ presences are DJ SAGE and DJ LEXOR who you can find in the upstairs lounge of Death Guild. Each one of these consummate music professionals brings his own perspective and his own unique talents to the club. The music in this upstairs room is often the MOST eclectic you will find anywhere on the West Coast. I have yet to find Sage's equal anywhere on his level. And perhaps the POWER NOISE ROOM at Das Bunker in Hollywood is the most genuine comparison for Luxor's incredible mixing talents.
THE BAR CREW
Very special shout out to CHUPA and RON in the upstairs lounge! This dynamic duo really know how to take care of you and make the most AMAZING drinks for the most reasonable cost you'll find in San Francisco. Also another kudo to JARED who works the Absinthe Bar downstairs. If you want to go on a wonderful flight of fancy with "The Green Faerie", Jared is definitely your man, and a true bartending institution: I have been a fan of this gentleman since I first met him performing these thirst-quenching responsibilities more than 12 years ago at the legendary (and profoundly missed!) JEZEBEL'S JOINT.
THE LOWDOWN
DEATH GUILD is incredible dancing excitement, with the most cutting edge music, and remains one of San Francisco's premiere club nights!
P.S. I am LAUGHING because Yelp is asking for me to check some boxes on "Ambiance" and the choices they give are:
* Hipster (dear god, NO)
* Romantic (oh god - wrong place!)
* Dive-Y (Okay okay, I CAN check this!)
* Classy (Classy? Well, considering the astonishing and amazing outfits men & women come to the club in here, I'd have to say "YES" to "classy", in a definitely GOTHIC-INDUSTRIAL way...)
* Trendy (Trendy? Is Death Guild "Trendy?" I'll have to get back later on that...)
* Upscale (Again, there is definitely an "upscale" component to many of the denizens here, especially as it crosses over into the exquisite & very stylish fetish-realm)
* Touristy ("TOURISTY?!?" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!)
* Casual (Nope.)
* Intimate (CAN BE....*wink!*)
I'll leave "ambiance" at that for now! And see you on the DG dance floor, my friend! - Dec 26, 2008Updated review
Love: Hosting of DG. Their cider and nachos.
Hate:
The specific lack of effing toilet seats man.
Because DNA, ALL your toilets had no toilet seats!!! Being a girl, I find that incredibly gross. I'm not camping, there is no reason your bathrooms should look like a highway truck stop.
P.S. I really hate camping.
Oh and FYI, you're being watched the entire time you're there.

I've come here many a time since my best friend's dad is friends with everyone here.
Now, while I can't say I adore it I do enjoy showing up every once and awhile. The music is pretty good and I love that I can dress however I want and get away with it. (For halloween I came as little red riding hood...it was funny as hell)
The only drawback I would say is that I've had several...that's right several, bad experiences with guys I either met here, or happen to visit here freqently. Thus I do not come here for anything other than hanging out with my friends and avoid the men entirely.
Oh yea...and I LOVE the lady who sells jewelry. I still have my gorgeous necklace I bought from her on a whim and I get compliments on it all the time. - Nov 17, 2016
I had a great time at Death Guild! Went for Halloween and it was quite a lively turn-out.
There was a nice mix of music--from industrial to 80's--and the crowd was appropriately diverse; all ages were represented. If you're a goth who regularly bemoans the lack of the right "scene," you will feel right at home here. If you're not a goth, but nonetheless enjoy dabbling in the subculture, you will still enjoy yourself.
The host club, DNA lounge, is spacious--two story, with multiple bars, and it is adjoined by a pizza place that exudes a truly mouthwatering aroma.
The cover charge is only $5--a seemingly excellent deal that is soon negated by the egregiously high drink prices. The cheapest well drink is $9. Anything more complicated is $16. The bartenders pour heavy, though, bless their hearts. By drink #3, I was spinning so you will get close to your money's worth.
I'll definitely go back. Wish I lived closer.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 10, 2014
This is my favorite club night in all of San Francisco!! You never have to worry about super-drunk brotards wearing misogynistic neon t-shirts yacking all over your shoes or hitting on you loooooooong after you've said, "No, thanks!" You never have to worry about hearing Justin Bieber or Katie Perry or Ke$ha blasted over the speakers, and everyone puts actual effort into their appearance...some baby bats flutter around wearing the most exquisitely interesting and creative costumes one could imagine anyone thinking up for a Monday night!
First, let's get one thing straight: This is a GOTH club. That means people will be wearing black clothing, have evil-looking dramatic make-up on, possibly be wearing fetish attire, and dance alone in a melodramatic way that expresses their inner existential angst. The music will be some mish-mash of goth, industrial, dark wave, etc. Strangers may glower at you, girls may walk by wearing little more than a pair of patent pleather hot pants and thigh-high 7" platform fetish boots...in fact, some guys might walk by wearing that very same outfit. There may be elder goths (eek, you mean people in their 60's still have lives and do cool things?? Perish the thought!!!) and gender queer folks and (heaven forfend!) people there who are sober and just came to dance!!! I know, right? What is the world coming to?!!!
If this doesn't sound like your fine-china cup of belladonna-spiked tea, perhaps you'd be more happy heading to DNA Lounge on a Saturday night for Bootie.
But if it DOES sound like something that would make your ebony-clad loins quiver, Death Guild is definitely The Best Goth Club in San Francisco, and certainly the best thing happening in the Bay Area on a Monday night!
So, haven't been yet? Not sure how to dip your sun-allergic toes into the misery-infused dank delicious abyss that is Death Guild? It's very simple: at the very least, wear black. Seriously. Head to toe. And make it a little sexy...the more creative, the better! Have creepy glowing contact lenses? Yup, those'll be great! Cyber-goth neon clip-in dreds? Faaabulous! And don't forget the three rules of gothic dressing: black eyeliner, black eyeliner, and black eyeliner!!!
Extra points if your garb never inhabited any of the racks at Hot Topic (real goths will sniff you out like ravenous wolves on a mortally-wounded squirrel!), even better if you customized some aspect of your apparel yourself! Don't own anything gothy? Wearing black-tie formalwear is generally acceptable, too...Ladies, stick to black or congealing-blood red in your floor-length gown!
Door charge is only $5 (!!!), and no one will think it weird if you arrive by yourself, or dance solo...after all, that's the goth way! If you favor the fruity beverages, find the blonde-pony-tailed bartender Ron and ask him to make you a Hello Kitty...or if you fancy yourself a more serious gothling, here absinthe abounds...Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 15Oh no 0 - Feb 25, 2008
Death Guild is fun to visit like once a year when you've got a hankering for some Siouxsie Sioux and recreating your fav looks from your high school days. Don your fishnets and check it out.
As you would pretend everything is ironic whilst at a hipster bar, best attitude to have here is that everything is depressing and/or annoying.
It's a cool space, the music is quite nice and there's plenty to see.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jennifer S.Sacramento, CA2414Nov 11, 2019
I love Death Guild! I've been coming here for years now and always have the most amazing time, such a wonderful escape from life! The music is well rounded and always danceable, the crowd is nice and generally to themselves. You can be a free bird here, never any judgement or weird looks. They've been around for over 20 years because of the feeling it gives people. If you like dressing in black and dancing the night away, this is your place!

From what I understand it's the longest running Goth/ Industrial Clubs still around in the area
The best one around the Bay Area. When scenes die, they die. The good thing about "Death Guild" is it doesn't feel like the early days of Goth ever did & that is commendable. I would HIGHLY recommend going up stairs, to check out that dance floor. I will return (at least a couple more times.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 8967413Feb 5, 2011
I'm not sure if this should be a review of Death Guild or DNA Lounge. I'm picking DG since I was there on a Friday night "Meat vs Death Guild" event.
I've been to DNA Lounge for Death Guild nights as well as a few live concerts. I love the environment, the people, the bartenders, the bouncers, and the music. Yeah, it's pretty typical goth/industrial/EBM you'd expect, but most of it is music I really enjoy hearing and dancing to. It gives me an opportunity to pull out the bondage pants, fishnets, and whatever else I love to wear but can't during the work week.
The live concerts are good and I've seen both VNV and A23 here. I've been to better sounding venues but this is still decent enough that the experience is worth going if your favourite band is here.
The prices on the drinks can be a bit up there, but if you pick up drinks that they have on special, it's not bad at all. I did find the coat check cost to be a bit high, but when you don't have many options for a jacket, it's worth doing instead of freezing without one.
Two thumbs up to DNA Lounge and Death Guild. It's a great place to go for your dancing needs!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aisling D.Portland, OR12307Jun 11, 2008
So other than the fact that you may run into some of your favorite industrial bands, the music is good (for the most part). For some reason though i have lost something every time I go there.
There are a mix of people most nights and there can be ass holes that wonder in. For the most part though, it is fun to go to get dressed up, drink with your friends, and dance the night away with no inhibitions. Cheers!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
