Krekel's Custard & Hamburgers

We place the order on the internet because of the coveid restrictions. It was a half an hour wait and it should have been ready at 6:10 p.m. according to their. But when we got there they said they're having problems with the internet and didn't have our order. Then they found it and 20 minutes later we got our food.While we were waiting we found their vanilla machine was down and we wanted floats. So we went to cancel them and suddenly there vanilla was back up and. I went there as a Young Man many many times when we lived in townand this was the worst service and the poorest food I've ever had from. Something has changed and are not good anymore at least from the experience we just had.

This is very disappointing because it used to be good I don't know what happened but the hamburger I had today was the nastiest I've ever had it was cooked properly it looks good it just didn't taste good in a bun was hard and crunchy

Do I need to say anything. 2 double cheeseburgers ketchup mustard pickle mayo...large fries....large lemon shake....BAM

Brought my family here recently when they reopened with outdoor seating for lunch. The food tasted good, but I wish the burgers weren't so thin. I got a double and it barely felt like a single burger. Also the girl working at the window taking our order was a little snappy. I'm hopeful she was just stressed and not usually like that. Giving 4 stars because we will definitely come back, just hopefully to someone a little friendlier...

Good food, especially the ice cream. But it's worth noting they don't call themselves fast food... which is a good thing, because you should expect to spend a while here. The first time I went in was admittedly during lunch, but according to my receipt I waited no less than 25 minutes for a single burger.

The second time I went I was the only customer and I waited in my car for ten minutes for the burger. Not too bad but still a bit long.

The third time was the clincher. I arrived behind someone who ordered 10+ concretes. I ordered a single concrete and proceeded to spend 15 minutes watching three workers make ten other concretes before anyone bothered to make my one. Just doesn't seem logical.

Again the food is good and it's at an affordable price, but avoid this place if you're in a hurry or want to feel like they notice you.

I've been coming here for decades!! It's one of the best hamburgers in Springfield. I always stop in when passing through around lunch time. They also have multiple other items besides hamburgers, along with Frozen Treats. Make it a point to go to the North End and give it a shot

Great burgers and fries!! They did not honor the small free cone for check-in. Employee at cashier asked everyone working how to key it in and no one knew how so we were charged for it. But overall, food came pretty quickly and you can tell it was made fresh.

Burgers are quite a bit thinner than I expected. A double cheeseburger looked like a single cheeseburger. I questioned whether there were really two patties in there. Flavor was good; it's pretty greasy. Staff was okay; they were pretty busy after the lunch hour. Custard was delicious and probably the best part of the meal.

Delicious burgers, excellent ice cream, quick service, cheap prices, outside and inside seating, Krekel's has it all. I even like the classic neon signage. There's a good reason why Krekel's wins Illinois Times' best burger award year after year.

While I understand challenges associated with restaurants during the pandemic, I have to say the service here was extremely disappointing. We ordered online, figuring that would mean we'd arrive when the online system said our order would be ready. Unfortunately, this was not the case--to an extreme. We called when we arrived, as we had ordered curbside pick-up. We were told, "we'll let them know you're here." This was about 4-5 min prior to when the order was supposed to be ready, so we were fine waiting a few minutes. Bottom line, we had to wait another 35 min. after our arrival, until our order was ready. After calling again, & walking up to the window, we were THEN told that they don't start prepping the order until you ARRIVE. WHY ON EARTH HAVE AN ONLINE ORDER, if it doesn't mean your order will BEGIN being prepared when you ORDER IT?!?! We got our order 55 minutes after placing the online order. And the staff was rather snarky when we asked about the delay with our order. The burgers & fries were good, not great...but the sub-par service means we will not be back.
