The pizzawas really yummy I think the best way to eat this pizza is to tear off the crust and take off the toppings and take a the topping as and then a bite of crust

Lou Malnati's Pizzeria gets a solid three stars from me. While the service was okay, it was a bit slow and a few requests in our order were missed. We asked for mushrooms on our pizza and two cokes. The mushrooms never made it on the pizza and the sodas came out by the end of our meal. Despite this, our waiter was very kind and accommodating.
As for the food, the deep dish pizza wasn't really my style. It was quite watery and the cheese became rock hard just a few minutes after it was served. However, the salad was a highlight of the meal--absolutely delicious. I enjoyed it so much that I'm planning to try and recreate it at home.
While I don't think we'll be back, Lou Malnati's is worth trying at least once.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

First time, but when in Chicago we have to have deep dish! We started with the Malnatis salad. It is excellently tossed with light dressing and many yummy bits like tomato, mushroom and blue cheese plus crunchy salami bits. Fantastic, we really enjoyed it. All fresh ingredients!
Our server was quick and she did a good job keeping our drink filled, even on a busy Friday night. Music plays lightly in the back ground to this very fun but not too crowded basement dining area.
Our pizza was pepperoni and black olive. We asked if the mushrooms were fresh but were told they were canned, so we kept from getting that, sadly.
The crust was crunchy and buttery. The sauce is very fresh tasting and the pepperonis are not fried up or crisp but soft and tasty. Loved the cheese and each bite, wish I ate less salad! Large fed five easily! When we visit again, this is a definite stop!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 22, 2023
Lou Malnati's is the place for a great Chicago style deep dish pizza.
Since the pizzas take about 30 minutes to cook, try the stuffed spinach bread while you wait. The hot, house made crusty loaf is stuffed with a creamy blend of cheeses, fresh spinach, garlic, onion and tomato and served with a side of fresh marinara sauce full of tomatoes.
The "Lou" deep dish is a classic especially for veggie lovers-spinach, mushrooms and sliced Roma tomatoes. No wait on a Sunday early afternoon. Sign up for their email list for coupons, although we got our coupons after we visited.Helpful 14Thanks 5Love this 14Oh no 0 - Nov 1, 2023Updated review
Freshly created, fresh ingredients. Deep dish made to order!! What a delicious pizza pie. Look at the pics...looks like a pie, right You will wait a little longer, but you will not be disappointed. We love trying amazing foods whenever we travel to a new location. This was no exception & highly recommended by the locals. So Yelpers get your taste buds ready for an explosion of flavor.
If you love fresh ingredients with a thick crust, this is a must try.

Whenever we travel, we always ask the locals "What do you recommend?" Word of mouth is what led us here. 1 1/2 hour wait time, and you wonder is this worth the wait? What else is in the area? All these people waiting, It mUst be good!?? So curiosity got the best of us, and we waited TESTIMONY TIME...Hot, heavy, Thick, lots of cheese, you could see the ingredients and didn't have to guess what they were. A mouthful!! If you love cheese, this is a MUST TRY! We really enjoyed the experience. Great food

The sausage deep dish is tasty and famous and lives up to the hype. My fave of the city's options. But down sleep on the thin crust!! Same butter crust but in addicting bite size pieces that make you happy.

Great service! We arrived a few minutes before their 11am opening & the hostess motioned for us to come in from out of the cold. We were seated in a cozy booth for two & got to ordering our personal sized pizzas since they take 30 minutes to make & bake. My best friend had the Malnati Chicago Classic & I customized a deep dish ($12.79) with mushrooms, onions, & olives ($1.85 each topping) & added a butter crust ($0.99.)
As with most pizzas that layer sauce on top of cheese, Lou Malnati's was a bit watery in a few spots but that did not affect the taste of fresh tomatoes, stretchy cheese, & that decadent butter crust. I saved half for later in the day & it was even better cold.
Ya gotta have deep dish pizza in Chicago, it might as well be from Lou Malnati's. Their name is synonymous with good Chicago-style pies, & I can see why.Helpful 11Thanks 8Love this 9Oh no 0Business owner information

I've had Lou's shipped to me frozen, but felt I needed to try the fresh pie in the city it come from! Came in for an early dinner and got the Lou's classic personal pizza. Definitely very tasty and the crust is buttery. I prefer a NY slice, but Lou's is a great deep dish without making it too heavy. A must for any Chicago visit.

We would be happy to be "your pizza" when you are in Chicago! Come back anytime! - Oct 6, 2023
We came here on a weekday and the wait for a table was 25 minutes for a table so we opted to get the food to-go, which ended up waiting for 35 minutes. The wait was not as long as the line 40 minutes later around 12:45 pm was about 10 times as long.
They packed the small pizza with pepperoni that we ordered with everything that we needed -- two plates, cheese, crushed peppers. The pizza also had plastic on it to prevent the sauce from getting everywhere. Only problem is, is that their outdoor seating (4 public tables) has no umbrellas and it started raining as we sat outside. Logistically, the lines can be really long.
In terms of food, my partner thought there was too much sauce and that the crust was dry. I thought the pizza was fine -- a different take on pizza for sure, but still a good one.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jul 8, 20241 check-in
We were yelping a good deep dish pizza in Chicago, particularly close to our hotel. We found Lou's pizza and there was a long line outside. Only took about a 15-20 minute wait. We ordered the small Lou Malnati's deep dish with sausage and 2 bowls of minestrone soup. The soup was very good and pretty generous for under $6! Our pizza came and the waitress cut the small size into 4 pieces. I watched the cheese stretch a lot as she placed the pizza on our plate. She forgot to give us our forks and knives as well as the table next to us. All I could taste was the tomato sauce and not so much of the sausage topping. The cheese hardened a bit and was too thick. I should have ordered a customized pizza with all the trimmings that I'm used to. The crust was buttery and good though. After finishing my soup and 1 slice of pizza, I was already full and tried to finish my 2nd slice. We had our pizza outdoors on a comfortable evening 70s weather and enjoyed the trains running by. Unfortunately, not the taste that I was aiming for.
