    About the Business

Established in 2012. Our story began over 150 years ago, when Obed Lewis married Cordelia Iles and built their family home on the corner of Seventh and Jackson Street, just one block west of the Lincoln home. The Lewis' three children, William, Kate and Mary, became close friends with Mary Todd and Abraham Lincoln's children. Being the family home, it was passed down through the generations until the 1930s, when it was sold and converted into commercial office space. In 2007, Obed and Cordelia's great-great grandson and his wife, Court and Karen Conn, purchased the family property hoping to restore its 19th-century grandeur. Unfortunately the home had seen many additions that voided the once elegant home of all its charm. Not being the type to give up on dreams, the Conns explored numerous ways to bring back the historic ambiance to the family property. Court and Karen made the difficult decision to raze the muddled family home in an effort to preserve another structure. With the help and cooperation of…

My wife lived in Springfield 10 years ago and talked about this place often. When we went for the weekend, I was excited to check it out --- and it did not disappoint.

It was crowded when we arrived for lunch, but shortly after, we found seats at the bar. The first beer I had was an IPA, which was nice and refreshing on this hot day. I wanted to save room for the signature "Horseshoe" --- a Springfield delicacy, so I only got one beer. My next drink was a seltzer, which was also nice relief from the heat.

The horseshoe is just as big and filling as I was prepared for, and it was exactly what I hoped for. The cheese, ground beef, and Texas Toast created a supreme base, and the fries on top were hot and crispy. I wish there had been a little more cheese, but I was able to dunk most of the fries in the goop underneath the bread.

The atmosphere was great inside, very friendly. And the prices are very reasonable. As an added bonus, the only home owned by Abraham Lincoln is just a few blocks away. So if you like craft beer and bar food, and our 16th president, this is a great place to stop.

My tribe of 5 agreed on 3 starts.

The space is nice, they kept a lot of the original house.
The food was good, service could have been better. Me tasted 9 beers (2 flights + 1) there were okay.

We came at 5:00 on a Friday night. What sounded good from the menu was the brisket, but no brisket available. Asked about the chili, the server said it was kind of greasy and should be considered an ingredient, so we didn't get that either.
We were going to get the blackberry cobbler, but they were out of that too. Surprised they were out of so much so early on a Friday evening.
We ended up getting a salad and Carolina Gold Burger.
We asked for a side of ranch dressing and got a small, plastic container. We were charged an extra $1 for it that wasn't disclosed ahead of time. Not a big deal, but mention it ahead of time.
The food was fine, but underwhelming for the price.
After paying by credit card, the receipt came back with an additional 3% charged for credit card fees.
That charge wasn't previously disclosed either.
I'm not one who appreciates hidden fees and charging more for the meal than the original bill.
The space is nice, but the food itself, lack of communication and extra fees won't bring us back.

Well, here it is...my 300th brewery visit. Are you impressed? I hope so because I haven't enjoyed it. I did it all for you! Ok...maybe not. Obed & Isaac's is a good stop for my 300th it seems. It's located in a cool old building and has a great vibe to it.

      A flight of four included:
Strawberry blonde ale which had good strawberry aroma and flavor. Some strawberry beers have the slight sourness but this one didn't. Sweet and reminiscent of eating sweet berries right out of the garden.

Next was Magical Unicorn Elixir. Am I the only one with a dirty mind? I'll leave it at that.... This was a really good IPA. Great hop aroma and flavor.

I ordered an appetizer of Scotch eggs because, well, I love Scotch eggs. Honestly, they were a little overdone for me, the yolks were basically hard boiled. They were still quite tasty of course and I know many people don't appreciate the soft boiled yolks. They were served with a stone ground mustard and marinara. Honestly this is the first time I've run across marinara with a Scotch egg and my answer is...no. Sorry, but that's just weird. Mustard goes with Scotch eggs. Would you have mustard with fried mozzarella? Hell no! I'm not hating on marinara, except with Scotch eggs. What's that? You like marinara on your Scotch eggs? Ok, you're wrong. No hate. No anger. You're just wrong. Deal with it and move on. And have mustard with your Scotch eggs.

Last beer was...well I can't remember now. I have hit three breweries and ranted about marinara sauce. DD Ont judge me! Have you nouu to iced that no one ever says "Don't judge me" eh er n you compliment them? No, it's only when you have criticism, which means to me it's not the judging that bothers them as long as it's positive. Anyway...

O&I was pretty cool in spite of the marinara. The beers were good, the staff was friendly, and the building and history were cool.

Yes, you will need to read into it a little to get the joke but I have confidence in you! I hope my confidence is not misplaced.

Parking lots are confusing! We've been traveling all day from Michigan headed home to Texas and once again Yelp helped us find this beautiful place! We were seated quickly, and our server gave us a great description of the menu and his recommendations. We shared a flatbread and it was fabulous!

We'd been to the Lincoln National Historical Park and saw this was in walking distance (about a block away). It was busy and they told us a 25-30 minute wait, so we sat at the bar to eat instead. Turned out to be over 45 minutes before we got our food! The bartender was busy but very efficient and friendly. New people in the kitchen and new menu items seemed to cause the delay. My husband had the pulled pork bbq plate and it was good. I got the legendary Horseshoe Sandwich. Angus beef burger on the toast, with white cheese sauce and fried on top. It was really tasty! This is a busy place with outdoor seating and the bar.

Really great place for out of town guests. The house's historic vibe fits in well in historic Springfield. All the beer is brewed onsite and the one's I've tried live up to their menu descriptions.

On my most recent visit with some out of town friends - we all enjoyed our beer and entrees.

Meals included fish and chips, honey, goat, and bacon flatbread, Reuben sandwich and fries, and beer cheese soup. Everyone enjoyed their meal- position sizes were ample- and the beer complimented the food.

Our server was amazing. Super friendly and on top of things. When we walked out without our boxed up leftovers- she ran to the door to hand them to us.

Obed & Isaac's is definitely worth a visit- for a meal or for a beer and appetizer's.

Our road trip to Springfield has been full of gems worth adding to your list of must do places! Every local person we encountered recommended this restaurant to us. I'm fairness, it was already on my list, but all the endorsements only added to our excitement.
I wish the weather had been more agreeable so we could enjoy the outdoor space. The inside is quaint and cozy with room for small or large parties.
Tina took excellent care of us during our visit. She was friendly and helpful making excellent suggestions on the menu. We had been recommended the artichoke dip so we started with that!!! Whew! This stuff is fantastic!! A bubbly creamy and cheesy with a generous amount of artichoke. The dip is served along side fried pita wedges. This was the perfect vehicle for such a hearty dip. The menu boasts burgers, sandwiches, entree sized salads, and comfort food meals. For meals we went with the pub burger, brisket burger, and a soup & salad. We weren't disappointed that's for sure. The stand out was the tender brisket and the delicious sauce covering the meat. I forgot to ask what brand this is to see if I could get some to take home. The soup that night was potato and it definitely hit all the marks. We were too full for dessert. The offerings are bread pudding and gooey butter cake. Being from St. Louis, those are usually pretty hard to beat from the options we have at home. But if you're unfamiliar with gooey butter cake, you can get a little taste of The Lou while in Springfield.
