Chef Lincoln WOW'd us. I brought my most strict food-critic friends that also claim they don't like French cuisine and he blew their socks off! What an amazing restaurant, beautiful dining experience, gorgeously plated delicious food and with the window to see the chefs! I tried so many things and the food was one of a kind, the most unique dishes I've ever seen. We all loved it, and the drinks were great too. This is a must visit in Chicago!! Especially for Chef Lincoln! Service 10/10 Food 10/10 Ambiance 10/10

Celeste, the insightful server, said the appetizers are large enough to be considered a meal for one person and she was absolutely right! I ordered the French onion soup and the lobster crepe during lunch service (novice tip: if you email and request for the 10-day aged duck breast which is on the dinner menu, they may be able to accommodate you!).
I was definitely full and happy with my selections! I only wish I had space for more!
Also, Mondays are half off wine bottles!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 74052Aug 21, 2024
A great Monday lunch at Obelix
We've had dinner here several times and always loved it but this was our first visit for lunch.
We shared some lovely east coast oysters and then both ordered from the prix fixe menu. The potato and leek soup was lovely, really lovely, as was the beet salad.
My wife had the chicken roti and thoroughly enjoyed it, I had the quiche and it was fantastic, the best quiche I ever ate.
We both had cheese for desert and all in all we thought the prix fixe meal was a bargain for $42.
We dined on Monday and on Monday's it's half off any champagne or sparkling wine, so we splurged and got a bottle of Billicart Salmon.
The wait staff at Obelix is top notch, great service and very knowledgable but approachable.
We had lunch here after seeing the Picasso show at the Art Institute and all in all, this was a wonderful way to spend a Monday.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 20, 2024
Obelix occupies a beautiful, light filled space in River North. We were meeting a friend for lunch, and the menu read delicious. Unfortunately, my dishes were weird, maybe creative at best, and left me bewildered. The other dishes served, a tomato sandwich and a citrus cured salmon, were okay. I ordered Moules Frites and Blue Fin Crudo.
The Moule Frites came in a sardine can. There were no shells, no soupy garlic butter sauce to scoop up with bread. It was a little container with canned mussels and little pearls of something. We were all scratching our heads confused. The Blue Fin Crudo was submerged in this syrupy sweet liquid that tasted disgusting. I couldn't eat it.
The three stars are for the lovely space, the pleasant service, the wonderful wine, and the great company. As for the food, Alain Ducasse would have tossed my dishes into the garbage.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Aug 14, 20241 check-in
Had a very off experience here, not sure what was going on but service was all over the place and food did not make up for it. Best thing I ate was the bread and butter and even then, the butter needs to be served a little softer.
Stopped in for lunch. It wasn't terribly busy (not full), but our server would disappear for periods of time, and the lunch ended up being over 2 hours which is crazy. escargots were ok, onion soup was very salty, pate en croute was fine, chicken was fine, didn't stay for dessert as it took too long. Multiple times we were served food without appropriate silverware (like my soup without a spoon?), where we had to wait and flag someone down to help us. Had to ask for water refills, remind them of drinks ordered that never arrived, was served a dish we didn't order, etc. Fries were served cold and when we brought it up they refried the same plate of fries.
Just a number of weird mishaps for a restaurant of this quality and not pressed to make it back to give it another shotHelpful 3Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1 - Jun 6, 2024
Got a chance to check out Obelix brunch a month or so ago as it was brought to my attention as a must try! We had a 1pm Sunday reservation to make sure we didn't have to wait since the place is very popular. Glad that we did as the place didn't have an empty seat. Just an FYI, if you cant get a resy, bar seating is available but that may be full as well.
Walked in and was greeted by the lovely hostess. She told me my seat was just about ready and while they finished cleaning I saw a friend having brunch and she gave some great recommendations after saying she's been there multiple times. Once seated we were greeted by the very nice Ashley who broke down all the goodies on the menu. I decided to go with my friend's recommendation (& Ashley's lol), the Delice De Bourgogne Quiche. Was decent, but appreciated my date's dish a bit more i which she got the Foie Gras & Pancakes! The syrup and duck bacon definitely set that dish the hell off! Side of Moroccan carrots were very delicious as well. The Lyonnaise Salad (my friend raved about this) was great as well...fully equipped with duck confit, duck egg and duck fried croutons...outstanding! Washed all of this down with a french 75!
They were telling us the dinner menu is just as good and would be going through some changes so very much looking forward to a return soon! I definitely recommend Obelix. Great food and service!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 25, 2024
We came for brunch and arrived right at their opening time 10:30am. There was probably only one other party already seated when we arrived. By the time we left, the place was completely full.
The service was great. Very friendly, quick and efficient. There was only one issue with the price being charged to what the menu had it listed for. We pointed it and they were able to get it corrected. Besides that, the food tasted delicious.
My wife ordered their Truffle French Toast and I ordered their Duck Pozole. Definitely a lot of Duck on this menu. My wife's French toast came with whipped Boursin, honey and perigord truffles all on a thick brioche bread. My wife thought there was too much Boursin, but I thought it had the perfect amount. A really delicious dish nonetheless.
My Duck pozole was just as delicious. It came with duck confit and hominy in a Duck broth and served with a side of garnishes, like avocado, radishes, chicharron, cabbage, lime, jalapeños and tostadas. Me being Mexican, I've had my fair share of pozole. But it's mainly with pork and sometimes with chicken. This was my first time trying it with duck, and was exceptional. Would definitely order it again. I'll definitely be returning to check out their dinner menu.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 1 - Ryan H.Champaign, IL01112Sep 13, 2024
Went tonight for my anniversary and we had a great time.
Negative (--): service was slow
Positives (+++): food was amazing; loved the atmosphere; service was very thorough when applicable; and good value compared to similar quality restaurants.

One of my absolute favorite spots for both brunch and dinner in Chicago. I got to have brunch here a couple weekends ago and it did not disappoint. Excellent service as always. The food was absolutely delicious. It was busy, but not too loud which I really enjoyed. Will definitely be back.

Obelix was all around a terrific experience - the food, ambiance and top notch wait staff. This is a romantic dinner spot. It's a great dinner spot period. We enjoyed a tomato tart, tempura squash blossom, French onion soup, the dry-aged duck breast and an order of duck fat fries. I wish we could've had room for dessert! We also enjoyed their delicious bread and butter. Our favorite was the tomato tart - in season tomatoes in a savory tart shell - DIVINE! The duck was also delicious. I've decided French onion soup is simply too rich for me now but this one was cheesy goodness and the broth had nice depth and flavor. Our server was also friendly and helpful, and recommended the perfect cocktails to accompany the food. What a nice evening out...please open one in San Francisco!
