Really neat experience. We had amazing weather the weekend we came here. I'm amazed at how big that ship is. My sister is on an amphibious ship so it was cool to tour and think of her. There were so many nooks and crannies, and by far, it had the best looking mannequins I have ever seen with lifelike faces. I only mention that, because I've never seen anything like it.
I would recommend eating before you come because it's easy to spend a whole day there, and there isn't anywhere to get food. When you pay for parking, your ticket and parking are valid all day. We came here the night before, and it was neat to see the lights on the ship as the sun was setting. Very beautiful!
After spending so much time on the USS Yorktown, we breezed through the other ship. That one doesn't have air conditioning so when the weather is warm/hot watch out. Don't miss the Vietnam experience. There's some cool aircraft and watercraft hidden back there.
My family would recommend checking this out for sure!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Brian L.Helena, MT25338Mar 19, 2024
I have used this place multiple times, it's 1 of 2 launching places for Fort Sumter. Last summer took my stepson on the USS Yorktown captains tour. Very informative and educational. Part of the tour is the USS Laffey, both are definitely worth a visit. There they also have a Vietnam base camp site, for military history experience. If your looking for a military history fun filled educational day would definitely recommend.

While the staff was great and knowledgeable, I was disappointed regarding the USS Yorktown. Four self guided tours to choose from. We took Tour 4 first. It was mainly a collection of models. Little or no information as to what the various rooms were used for. We then took tour 2 and it was better. Cool to walk up to the observation deck to look over the flight deck. We later saw there was an audio tour available. I wish we had taken take or a guided tour.
The Medal of Honor was very impressive. I wish we had more time to view it.
I then toured the Destroyer. Parts were air conditioned. Hallelujah!
Lots of information so you knew what you were looking at.
We then went to the Vietnam exhibit area. Very well done. Nice film and a good selection of equipment (helicopters, artillery, personnel buildings, etc) to look at.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Michelle H.Harrogate, TN136529Feb 14, 2024
My husband and I came here yesterday and I am so happy we did ! There was One battleship and one air craft carrier and both were super amazing ! They also had a Vietnam experience which was super interesting as well as super sad !!! So much history here we both left with a different understanding of all that took place during these terrible wars ! It took us at least 6 hours as we wanted to take in everything- I highly recommend while visiting Charleston! The ships were immaculate- the prices reasonable , so much history and so much to learn - it was amazing

I have lived in SC my whole life and never visited this place. Took my son a couple of weeks ago, and he had a blast! It was good for him to get out of the house and learn a little bit of history. The ship is more vast than anticipated. There are several levels going downward and upward. We were out there for 2 hours and still did not see the whole ship. We will be returning. I have a whole new respect for Navy men and women. Those stairs wore me out!! Just think of going up and down those on a daily basis while the ship is in motion! Great experience, everyone should go at least once.

What an amazing piece of history! This place is extremely well kept and a wonderful opportunity to see what it may have been like for our service men and women to live aboard a floating city. I was entranced by the depth and complexity of the engine room and my
Imagination ran away with the notion of the full time kitchen and medical facilities. Highly recommend visiting this place if you enjoy seeing and learning about our military history.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dollene G.Harper Woods, MI095Feb 28, 2024

This is an all day event and well worth the time. We started off on the USS Yorktown and spent 3 hours on it. They have private tours and headset tours you can rent. We didn't opt for either but still found it interesting.
The aircraft carrier is HUGE. You climb a lot of stairs but at such short intervals you don't feel it. They have a very informative movie that I highly recommend you watch. Like others mentioned, there are four different tours (or routes) that show you different parts of the ship.
Before you leave the ship, use the restroom if you're going to go see the Destroyer next (or see it first!) The Destroyer is worth seeing. There's a narrative demo in one of the rooms that is interesting to stay for. You get a feel for what it would be like for the sailors when confronted by a Russian submarine. Pretty tense.
We took a five minute walk to the Charleston Fish House and had lunch and then finished off the Vietnam War experience. It's well done. I highly recommend the movie in the first building for that as well.
I'm definitely coming back to see it again. It was well worth the six and half hours we spent there (that included the lunch break).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2
