Are the Nigri sushi served in the chef's choice sushi course and shiro's omakase different or basically the same?

      A:

My understanding is that the omakase sushi is different at the sushi bar versus at the tables in the dining room, but I don't know the extent of difference. You might want to call the restaurant to check.

** overall 4.75 stars ** (sushi bar counter)

As Chef Sean would say "'number 1 sushi in Seattle" and I can say by far no comparison. If I ever return to Seattle I'd come back here first and only here over other spots . It's more laidback and casual but out performs in quality.

The quality of fish from here is some of the best I've previously had throughout the 10+ omakases . There were also some pieces of fish that I've had for the first time.

Especially given the price/ value ratio I would honestly put this as a personal top 4/5 ranking behind only the highest end of experiences I've had in SF ( the Shota, kusakabe, etc)

There's only a few knocks to the experience. Namely - venue.

      Food: 5/5
All the fish were top quality and excellent. In particular the tuna quality stood out to me. The Akami (lean tuna) was as soft and smooth as a chutoro that I've had from other spots and the chutoro from here was like an otoro level.
The uni was also so good. It had a rich, nutty, complex flavor that was creamy and so clean. There was no ocean taste at all.

      Service - 4.25 out of 5 stars
We were served by chef Sean and he was very funny and interactive. We enjoyed how he tried to conversate with the bar group and give a backstory of each fish. The fact the bar seating was also only limited to 8 people and had fish served 1 at a time was a nice experience compared to another Seattle omakase spot.

The wait staff was decent - they seemed to be split between the bar group and the rest of the restaurant so it did take some time to get refills on drinks but nothing too bad.

      Venue - 2.5/5 stars
My biggest issue was that the restaurant was loud - like almost so loud I couldn't even hear the chef who was right in front of me. There seemed to be a large private party in the back and their sound leaked into the main room forcing everyone else to speak at a louder volume to compensate..

The restaurant also is slightly dated, it feels as if the room could go through a renovation and deep clean. There were also some of those pesky small fruit flies that would occasionally need to be shooed away which was a tad irritating but the chefs workspace was clean

The omakase is such a great deal. I believe we had 19 pieces of sushi and ALL of the fish were so fresh. I'm usually not a big ginger person but the pickled ginger tasted amazing.

It's a small sushi restaurant with the bar at the front of the shop. Because we had a big party, we called to make a reservation and was seated at the back of the restaurant.

The service could have been better. The hostess is so sweet, but the waiter who helped our table was a bit clumsy. He knocked into a few of my friends with plates a few times and accidentally spilled one of the soy sauce. When he explained the sushi to us, he would start by talking to us but slowly turn his head away so his voice drifted away. We ended up looking at the menu to know what we were eating and asked our friends who have been here before how they ate it last time (with or without soy sauce).

At the end of the day the food was good but we wished our waiter was more attentive and mindful.

I came here for the Che's Choice Sushi Course that many people have been raving about, but I was quite disappointed. I love the detail and thought behind the order of serving the sushi and selecting fish from various places around the globe, but flavors were quite bland. While they attempt to go fancy with salts and sauces, it just didn't hit the spot for us.

Service and sake were great, but I wouldn't come here for omakase sushi style at this price point. It was a very boring selection at $85/person and we added the supplemental appertizer at $25.

Reservations made via resy was quick and easy. Lucky for us they had availability the day of and the host was able to sit us a little earlier than expected, very nice of them to offer us the drink menu while waiting. At the time we visited they only served two choices of omakase. We went with the chefs choice sushi course which included 5 courses, 19 pieces of assorted nigiri sushi. My husband has a shellfish allergy and they were very accommodating. The sushi was fresh! Not as filling as I thought I'd be but loved the option of ordering a la carte after. Don't skip out on the engawa (fatty flounder edge) nigiri! Nice fatty and flavorful a la carte option. Elaine our server was the one who recommended it. She was very knowledgeable with all the dishes that came out and very friendly. Ambiance is very calm not too loud even though it's a small restaurant.

Oh my goodness this place was so good! We did table dining on a Saturday night. We got the Chef's Choice omakase option that came with 19 pieces.

Made the reservation days before and then changed our reservation time a couple times throughout the same day and it was super easy through Resy.

I loved the quality and freshness of all the pieces. Course 3 was probably my favorite, though everything was delicious. Our server was very knowledgeable about each item as well.

Spent $200 for two people - miso soup, omakase, and dessert. Totally worth it!

I just came back from a trip to Japan so my sushi standards are high right now especially for nigiri. The omakase was a decent price for 19 pieces of nigiri. However, I was disappointed on the portion of rice they used. They needed more as some of the rice pieces fell apart since there wasn't enough to hold the pieces together. The rice itself was just OK. The flavor could be easily found at cheaper sushi restaurants.
The fish itself was very good for being in the Seattle area. When I tried the fish that was imported from Japan at this restaurant, I could definitely taste a difference from when I went on my trip. The flavor was milder and the texture was a bit tougher (could be because it has to be frozen to ship overseas). It tasted like cheaper sushi I'd get from Japan, which is still pretty good. However, I was expecting a little more given the price point and ambiance.

The presentation of the courses was unimpressive. Every plate they used looked unoriginal... nicer sushi places usually put more thought into changing their presentation with the courses. Not a huge deal, but for a nicer sushi restaurant I'd expect better presentation.

I do recommend the matcha tiramisu! It's not a strong matcha flavor, but the flavor is so good.
The time between courses was a bit long, but just make sure to eat slower so it lasts longer.

Overall, if you want a Japanese omakase experience, then this is a good basic place to go. However, I'm not sure I'd go back again since I've had better nigiri and omakase elsewhere.

An absolutely wonderful experience! I've had Shiro's bookmarked for quite a while, and was finally able to make it down for their omakase experience. We book a reservation ahead of time which I would highly recommend doing, and got seated promptly. There are quite a few tables inside as well as bar seating, but they're spaced out enough where you don't feel too close to the people next to you.

We got the 19 piece omakase experience, served in 5 courses. Each piece of nigiri was crafted beautifully and the flavor and texture of the fish really shown through. My favorite course was definitely the tuna one, and favorite piece was that seared toro - absolutely melt in your mouth delicious! The kanpachi was also one of my favorites, though the uni here wasn't actually quite favorable to my taste. I'm allergic to shrimp, so they replaced the shrimp and tamago for me with a couple pieces of salmon which were also delicious :).

For dessert, we got the hojicha tiramisu which was fantastic! The hojicha flavor was prominent and the cake was soft and fluffy. I do think Shiro's is worth all the talk! It was enough to fill me up, but not be too full.

Shiro's Sushi in Seattle offers an exceptional omakase experience with their 19-piece chef's course. Every piece of sushi is expertly crafted, showcasing the incredible quality of the fish. The uni was creamy and fresh, while the toro was melt-in-your-mouth delicious--a true highlight of the meal. The service was attentive and added to the overall experience, making it feel like a special occasion from start to finish. If you're a sushi lover, Shiro's is a must-visit for an authentic and memorable omakase experience in Seattle.

A lovely low key anniversary celebration. We enjoyed the chefs choice sushi course. We were seated close enough to hear the chef table omakase. All food was fresh combined with explanations of the dishes and instructions on how to eat. The hot teas, crispy shrimp heads, and matcha tiramisu were pleasant surprises. Packed with flavor. The restaurant is small but efficient with very knowledgeable staff and chefs.

If you are second guessing whether you should try this place out ... STOP! Put your reservations in and enjoy sushi!

My best friend and I did OMAKASE at the sushi bar and we had no regrets. Chef Sean and Chris were amazing hosts!! Service was great. The timing of the courses were on point and as the chef said, each course got better and better. I loved the intimate setting. Service was friendly and team effort.

      A definite must!
