Richie’s 5-star review:
Wow Ravenswood, we got a [local, organic, sustainable] treat in our hood! I was one of the lucky few to check out what CP Deli has to offer the day prior to the Grand Opening party. So grab your coffee bean tote (burlap bags at the entrance for your shopping convenience shrunken and made out of the original coffee bean bags) and let's take a tour.
Straight ahead you'll find the Cafe where a barista can brew up your dream coffee or steep your perfect cup of tea. Coffee specials include fresh harvest honey latte, fumee de sel & caramel white mocha or a simple fresh goats milk latte, whereas loose leaf teas are from Ineeka and Rare Tea Cellars. Along your path to the Cafe, you'll happen upon a smorgasbord of fresh cheeses, jams and spreads, honey (created by bees living on top of buildings off Michigan Avenue!), carbs galore (pastries, Bennison breads, Albany Park's Alkhyem pita bread, etc), ice creams [including NiceCream and Ruth & Phil's], and the like), gluten-free chips 'n snacks, and the highly recommended goat butter! If you detour to the adjacent room, you'll find the true Delicatessen where a specialized butcher cuts your selection of me how you desire. They offer an assortment of fresh meats including bison, duck, pork, and the good old cow. Keep in mind that the options are ever-changing. Cleetus knows that were often 'on the run,' whether it be to work or a concert at Ravinia Park. That's why there's plenty of "grab 'n go" options like premade lunches and sandwiches, chips, cheeses, chilled wines & beers, and of course, sweets. I purchased some Wisconsin crackers with rosemary and a spiced hummus which was very tasty snack. The deli also offers hot and cold daily sandwich specials to choose from for those who will become regulars like myself. I purchased myself a boxed lunch which included a roast beef sandwich, a side of quinoa salad, a cookie and a pickle for $10. A bit pricey but lunch is already taken care of to get through the work day. Last, but definitely not least, you'll find a large selection of the owner Cleetus' alcoholic favorites: Wine, beer and liquor, and even his own personalized Bloody Mary mix which is recommended to be made with North Shore Distillery's Aquavit from Lake Bluff. Next to the alcohol selection, don't miss the map pin-pointing where the store's products come from.
CP is sure to work hand in hand with the environment, but also with you in mind. If you have allergies, intolerances, likes or dislikes, please voice your concerns. Cleetus is always open to hearing your opinions. City Provisions Deli has been a long time coming but was well worth the wait...just see for yourself!
