Sheri’s 2-star review:
I really wanted to like this place after all the positive reviews on Yelp that gave it an average of 4 stars.
Around 7:30 pm on a Sunday evening we ventured into MingHin. Since we didn't have reservations, the hostess informed us it would be approximately a 20 min wait. Luckily, the wait was about 10 mins. However, once we got seated that's when the waiting really began.
Our waitress informed us the sooner we ordered the better since people had been waiting for at least 20 to 30 mins for their food. We already knew what we wanted to order after looking at their cool digital menu and yelp photos. The consensus was the Pan-fried butterfish, the shrimp fried rice, and the American Broccoli with garlic to share.
Now, someone may say, you were warned that the food would take 20 to 30 mins to come out, so what is the issue? Well, I would respond that usually when you wait for food and it finally comes out, it comes out together not in a staggered schedule. The fact that the food came out late but on a staggered schedule was the issue we encountered.
After we waited for 20 mins the fish came out. We didn't eat it right away because we expected either the shrimp fried rice or broccoli to follow close behind. Nope, the broccoli came about 10 mins later and then the shrimp fried rice came about another 10 mins later.
The waiter and the bus boy constantly apologized and even tried to mitigate the situation by asking if we wanted steamed white rice in order to hold us over, we said yes, but that ended up coming out after everything else. So the broccoli and fish were cold when both rice options got to the table.
Sadly, the flavor of the fish was not that great. The portion size of the shrimp fried rice was good but the shrimp had this strange aftertaste. The American broccoli, the plain steamed rice, and the hot oil concoction they had were the best tasting items. SMH, thus I would not return nor would I recommend since their food service was below par for such a well known and regarded Chinese restaurant. I am not sure if they were understaffed, or overwhelmed, but either way, the wait time to be fed was ridiculous!
