Yes, the lines long. Even in the middle of the day. No matter what. COVID stops no one for their baked needs from SUSU. Fiancé follows, like many others, Mike Chen...and I hear he gave this spot high praise. So here we were. And tbh, I got more and more excited as we slowly waited in line, passing all the pastries. Now, that's some marketing! And I'm a marketer! Bravo to y'all haha
Anywho. I hear the durian pastries are all the rage here. There's even a tip on the window stating that the durian pastries have limits and run out quickest. While our eyes were HUNGRY FOR PASTRY nom nom nom, our bellies disagreed, and told us to chill. We shared half a dozen pastries, to be consumed later for snack in transit home.
Well, here's the thing. The durian fancier sure was fancy. Fancy with a whole piece of whole durian up in there! Was it super delish? Heck yeah? Was I about to smell up the whole plane w durian smell? Oh geez, ugh, omg, what to do, didn't expect this sitch, but yes, heck yeah. And how do I save myself? I consume the whole thing in four bites flat...btw the panic and fear of smelling like dirty socks, the pastry was divine. Buttery, crumbly, flavorful. Truffle. Delish. And that curry crab scone. Yessss. It's like a Thai dish in a pastry.
Really appreciating the Asian bakery fusion happening here. Totally digging it. The durian surprise was no bueno. But still tasty nonetheless. 5 stars!
