[edit source]Wikibooks is for collaborative development of free textbooks.
You do not need technical skills to contribute. You can easily change most books. Please introduce yourself, and let us know what interests you.
If you already contribute at other Wikimedia projects, our Wikimedia Orientation should quickly get you started.
- Read the Using Wikibooks book for a friendly introduction to the project, or our help pages for more information.
- You can get friendly help from the community in the user assistance room or our IRC channel.
- Upload freely licensed files to Wikimedia Commons. You may request permission to upload fair use files locally. Please include author and source {{information}} and a {{non-free use rationale}} for non-free files.
- You can restore a previously saved version.
- Pages should follow the
Book Title/Chapter Title
naming convention. - Need to rename a page? Use the move tab (is available once your account is 4 days old - until then, ask for help).
- To request a page be deleted, add
{{delete|your reason}}
to the top of the page. - Was a page you made deleted? Please read the deletion policy, and check the deletion log to find out why. Also check the RFD archives if applicable. You can request undeletion at WB:RFU, or ask the administrator who deleted the page.
- Please fill in the edit summary and preview your edits before saving.
- Sign your name on discussion pages by typing ~~~~
- User scripts can make many tasks easier. Look at the Gadgets tab of my preferences; check off the boxes for the scripts you want, and hit save!

Undeletion scripts
[edit source]Now that you're an admin, Using_Wikibooks/Scripting_and_the_MediaWiki_API gives you instructions on how to rapidly process undeletion/move/whatever requests. Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 13:50, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, I appreciate it. I'll do my best to be responsible 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 14:50, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
BookCat
[edit source]https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/User:1234qwer1234qwer4/BookCat.js may help you. Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 11:51, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
- The problem is that I don't know how to use these scripts 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 11:52, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
- Assuming that you're just adding the template, you can adapt the script used for deleting to add BookCat instead. Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 12:04, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
Importing to transwiki
[edit source]This is not always needed if you know you are going to move it immediately after, unless you prefer that way. Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 12:23, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- I tend to prefer it that way, and have become used to doing so, usually from adding {{dewikify}} and {{BookCat}} before moving the pages. 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 12:25, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Also, I know that I've been importing like crazy, but I want to preserve redirected Wikipedia articles to give them a new home here (as Wikibooks appears to be willing to provide one for them now) and expand upon the newly passed strategy guide policy. I still need to get to adding some content to the Fire Emblem Warriors wikibook that I made (and I plan for it to be my own writing). 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 12:30, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
StrategyWiki
[edit source]Please take strategywiki:Super Mario 63. It falls outside strategywiki scope. -- Prod (discuss • contribs) 00:49, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- sure, thank you 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 00:50, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
Uploading images
[edit source]Maybe using a script would help? Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 18:22, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- I agree, although it's more the manually entering the information and rationale. is there like a MultiUpload special page or something? How would the image script work? 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 18:25, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- Using a Python script where you can enter the rationale and the script will download the source image and upload it back. Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 18:34, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- do you have a link to it? 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 18:37, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
- Have you tried commons:Commons:Commonist? Supports uploading to Wikibooks. GUI so might be easier for you. Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 18:50, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Revision spam
[edit source]I've undone that revision deletion. "Revision spam" is normally used when the edit summary is used for spam or personal attacks (or with some kinds of LTA/long-term abuse). The edit I saw was just petty vandalism. Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 12:11, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard: Ah I was just about to apologize, as I tried to delete the edit summary because it spammed the history page. 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 12:12, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- It's OK, though you do have to be careful because the revision deletion you made was unrelated to strategy guides, and technically out of order as a result. While we're fairly lax about this here, we still have to follow the policy, and other wikis are much stricter (I had limited adminship at Meta for a while, and they are strict about limited adminship as stewards are authorised to immediately desysop someone in that case). Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 12:18, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard: Alright, thank you for letting me know 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 12:33, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- While we're on it, could you take a look at WB:RFP? There's still a few more needed for CU - need to stress that it's optional though. Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 12:37, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- Sure I can take a look 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 12:38, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Copyvios
[edit source]Courtesy notice that I've marked the following for deletion as copyright violations as they're excerpts from official game manuals:
Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 15:29, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- @SuperHamster: will delete them, thank you :) 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 15:30, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Pokémon Crystal
[edit source]Was thinking about starting a guide for Pokémon Crystal and saw it was deleted twice back in 2006. One appears to be vandalism, but the later one appears to have gone up for a vote. Is there any substantial content there, or is it best to start fresh? Thanks! --Mbrickn (discuss • contribs) 17:50, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Mbrickn: I undeleted the non-vandalism revisions. Apparently it is such a short guide & didn't really go anywhere. 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 18:49, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
- Makes sense. Thanks! --Mbrickn (discuss • contribs) 18:50, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Mbrickn: You're welcome -- have fun editing the guide! 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 18:51, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Undeletion of Talk:Super_Mario_64/Glitches
[edit source]Could you undelete Talk:Super_Mario_64/Glitches? Looks like you left that page out. --Marcus Alanius (discuss • contribs) 21:26, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Marcus Alanius: Sure thing, is there anything you wanted to refer to specifically? 2005-Fan (discuss • contribs) 22:39, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry for late response and thanks for your help, much appreciated. I wanted to see whether there was further discussion about the alleged UFO in Jolly Roger Bay, as I found no online references backing it up, and no video demonstrating the glitch.
