See the Collaboration page for the story. Several people think the title is wrong, members and non-members alike, and certainly more than those who don't think it is wrong. There are also several reasons for it to be changed, whereas the only reason for it not to be changed is "it's old". Basically, I am clearly correct. End of argument. My RfA

On my request for adminship page you asked the question - What happened to the motivation behind your comment on your user page: "Just to make this clear, I have no interest in becoming an admin."? I have now answered that question with -When I wrote that I was new to Wikinews and I had no interest in taking an active role in it. Since then I have started to take more of a active role and have decided I would be able to help in archiving articles, for which there is an incredible backlog. When I wrote I did have no interest in becoming an admin but since I have enjoyed Wikinews and have had looked at lots of articles and thought that it is 6 months old and needs archiving. So I have changed my mind as I think that by becoming an admin I cound help Wikinews. Also, at the time of writing that I did not fully understand Wikinews policy so I did not think it would be a good idea for me to become an admin. I now understand Wikinews policy, and as a result I am now less likely to make a mistake. I hope this explains my reasoning.--Anonymous101 16:37, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Award?

Although I'd love to leave it there, I didn't take the pictures from the Manchester protest. My camera very much decided to break and my phone is an anachronism. I think the photos were added by an unregistered user, but you'd have to check that yourself. Fallen-Griever 16:57, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, but I did not take the photos, which is what I understood that award being for. Fallen-Griever 17:22, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I thought that particular award was just for Original Photography, though? Fallen-Griever - (talk) 21:53, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
In that case, I see what you did there. Fallen-Griever - (talk) 13:47, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Embargoed wiki

If you'd like a non-official embargoed wiki, and want to avoid screwing around with the Foundation, I'll host it. Ral315 (talk) 18:01, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Question about sources

Hi Paul, thanks for your message, I hope to contribute some articles on life in the Netherlands. I do have a question actually: Is it allowed to use Dutch-language sources on the English WN? There is a newsitem that I would like to write, but there are no English sources (yet). What't the policy on this? Thanks, Theo Assen - (talk) 18:50, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Anon protests coverage

Intended to comment on this last night on IRC but ending up debating the embargoed wiki instead. Anyway, I'd just like to say thanks for your efforts in organising the coverage of the Anon protests and encouraging me to attend. I think you played a key role in this and deserve a pat on the back for your work. It was nice to get down to London to photograph the protests and meet up. I note there are plans emerging for another day of protests next month and will be keeping an eye on how this progresses but will consider attending again if I'm able to do so. Regards. Adambro - (talk) 18:12, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

2008 TIBE, nice thanks.

Because of picture reviews and digestions, I'll postpone several articles untill completion of key pictures uploading. But nice thanks for your help on copy-editing, even though today (February 18 in Taipei Time) will be the final day of TIBE 2008. Brock contact... 20:01, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

User:Skenmy/APC

Re: this subpage, I don't want to rename/move a page in your userspace - but I recommend moving that page to User:Skenmy/APC/February 10, 2008, and then reformatting the main planning page User:Skenmy/APC for the March 15, 2008 planned international protests. Thoughts? Cirt - (talk) 12:26, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done -- But I commented out the table - someone needs to update the table for the March 15, 2008 stuff and then add it back in. Cirt - (talk) 14:28, 3 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

London Marathon

13th of April. Something we'd like to cover? I don't have anything in my calendar for that date as of yet. Worth bearing in mind that London will be extremely busy though which is likely to make transport chaotic. Adambro - (talk) 12:10, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Anonymous Protests (March 15)

Hi,
I noticed you attended the previous “anonymous” protests for Wikinews. Will you be able to cover the March 15 protests? Please be aware that preparation for the March 10 protest is being coordinated at this page. If you think you could report on the article for Wikinews add your name to the list.

Olympic Torch

Hi Skenmy, just another quick 'heads up' about a forthcoming event in London. On Sunday April 6th, the Olympic Torch will be travelling through the city. See here and here for details. In light of the recent protests surrounding the Olympics, there might be more reason to cover this event than perhaps otherwise. Adambro - (talk) 18:00, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikinews High-vis Waistcoat

Hi. I'm looking to sort out some sort of jacket pointing out I'm doing press and not OSA work for the next Anon protest, and was wondering about the high-vis waistcoat you've got; I've found a supplier but am wondering about logo copyrights and formats- is there a higher resolution version of the WN logo about, and does the copyright extend to using it on a jacket? Obviously I'm not accredited, but seeing as I'm not claiming to be representing Wikinews I don't see that as an issue. I'm also planning to put a Slashdot logo on, as I submit some of my work there too, so it's hardly a 'I'm with Wikinews' jacket. Any advice on this would be great, and I hope to see you somewhat less briefly at the next Anon protest... --JamesHarrison - (talk) 02:00, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Blocked

I am very sorry Skenmy but I have felt compelled to block you for violating 3RR on Hackers attack epilepsy sufferers in online forums. The concept of 3RR is that editors are encouraged to not become involved in edit wars and instead discuss issues constructively and this applies regardless of the behaviour of the other party. It seems that you overlooked this this evening. It is very regretful that I'm having to take this action but as you have recognised yourself, you have put your fellow admins in a very difficult position. As an admin you should be an example of good editing practices and I don't believe that was the case today. To overlook the issue of 3RR in light of your admin status would be simply wrong and send a very wrong message. I hope you can appreciate this and can return from your block as the constructive editor that you usually are. Regards. Adambro - (talk) 22:19, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough, I broke the rules and I have no place kicking up a stink over it :) However, it is a tad annoying and rude that you waited until *after* I had left last night to do it, and that it is labelled as "disruptive editing". You, of all people, should know better than cheap shots like that, Adam. --Skenmy(tcw) 14:49, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry if I've offended you but I'm not sure what I've said to prompt this reaction. 3RR is disruptive editing is it not? With regards to the timing, I appreciate that it might be annoying that you weren't around when I put the block in place but it would be inappropriate for me to block you until I had chance to fully analyse what had been going on. Regards. Adambro - (talk) 16:32, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
i'm afraid i don't see Skenmy's editing as disruptive or indulging in a sterile edit war at all. Skenmy (as well as other editors) identified pov problems in the article, brought them up on the talk page and edited the article to fix them. he did this in the face of some determined and disruptive pov-pushing by Misou, whose prior conduct on Wikinews and conflict of interest i've also considered while evaluating Skenmy's conduct. i don't think this block is warranted. –Doldrums(talk) 17:02, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have to agree with Doldrums. Remember to ignore all rules. In addition to this I think that the description of disruptive editing is inappropriate. --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) (Note I have no link with the organization anonymous) 17:14, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
The block stands as far as I'm concerned. Ignore all rules is not an excuse for admins, who should be setting a good example, to disregard key principles and not be blocked whilst the non-admin in this situation is. If Doldrums thinks Skenmy shoudln't be blocked then why did he block Misou? We cannot have one rule of one set of users and another for another set of users. Whether or not the NPOV concerns were valid is irrelevant, the problem here is constantly reverting another user. This wasn't simple vandalism, this was a content dispute, 3RR applies to everyone. I stand by my comment that 3RR = disruptive editing. If this isn't the case then why do we block for 3RR? Blocks are intended to protect the wiki, serving as a punishment is a by-product of this; we're trying to stop disruption when we block anyone.
Yes it is very sad to block such an established contributor but by that same point, he clearly appreciates that his edits were slightly inappropriate and for that he deserves credit. Adambro - (talk) 17:30, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I understand that Skenmy should be blocked under current policies but if blocks are intended to protect the wiki, then Skenmy should not have been blocked. In fact it may even damage the wiki as it could discourage users from reverting clear POV edits. IAR is an excuse for admins if it involves edits that are improving the wiki. Adambro, you were probably right in blocking Skenmy with the current policy, however the policy (3RR) needs improvement --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) (Note I have no link with the organization anonymous) 17:45, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
i see 3RR as intended to prevent sterile edit wars, rather than a prescription to treat "good" and "bad" edits alike. Skenmy wasn't simply reverting Misou, he was trying to prevent Misou from publishing an article that several editors had issues with, while he (Skenmy) helped fix those issues. i do not see Skenmy's and Misou's conduct on the article as identical and requiring identical sanctions, not by a long shot. Skenmy may have violated the letter of 3RR, but he upheld the spirit of collaborative editing by helping fix the article before publishing it. i blocked Misou at the time to prevent continued edit warring on the article enabling, thanks to the efforts of several editors including Adambro, a much improved article to be published. this block, on the other hand, serves no purpose other than a punitive one, as far as i can see. given that Skenmy is well aware of what was wrong with his edits, and has accepted the short block as the consequence, i don't see any point in continuing the block. i intend to unblock Skenmy at this point and would appreciate if Adambro would concur with this decision. –Doldrums(talk) 18:13, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't consider it appropriate to unblock. Wait a few hours and there will be no need. Deciding whether an edit is "good" or "bad" is irrelevant when deciding whether a block is necessary for 3RR unless simple obvious vandalism. Adambro - (talk) 18:18, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

RfA

I am sorry that you feel this way, but I appreciate the way you have phrased your comment and that you would support in a couple of months if I continue as a good contributor. I do want to clarify that I did not come to Wikinews with one thing in mind, I came to Wikinews to learn about how to contribute to Wikinews, and I thought writing articles was the best way to learn. I chose a topic that I am familiar with and that I thought (at that time) didn't have that much coverage on this project. I have since diversified, as you say, and will continue to do so. I was curious if I could answer any particular questions that would change your mind, other than an additional 2 months work as a good contributor? Thanks for your feedback, Cirt - (talk) 21:34, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Note also my note about Category:Admins open to recall, I added that after your comment. Cirt - (talk) 21:41, 8 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

My apologies

Skenmy, I want to apologize here for discussing my RfA in IRC with you. I had asked you initially if that was okay and if it was alright to discuss the issue privately - moreso not about the RfA itself but about a general question if that indicated any unresolved personal issues between us. Regardless of your response of saying that a private IRC chat was okay, I should have kept the private part of the discussion about personal issues, and segregated the RfA part of the discussion to on-wiki communication, and for that I am sorry. As I have stated previously, I will continue to work on diversifying the topics and types of articles that I contribute to/write/create. To reiterate, the original reason I had contacted you was to assess and discuss any personal trust issue you had with me, unrelated to the RfA but because of the comment you had made there - it was never my intention to harangue you and I am sorry. I apologize and feel bad about all this and I hope you can forgive me. Yours, Cirt - (talk) 08:15, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Category:Adolf Hitler

I thought I could delete it as I was the only contributer (not counting the taging for deletion) so I was free to remove it, and if people disagreed only then would there be any reason to restore such content. But fair enough, I guess I was overly keen to get beyond accusations of abusing cats and whatever and get on with helping run a news site. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 20:14, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Only too true - I guess we get used to moving quickly because we are reporting news before it ceases to be so, and forget that the process behind the scenes takes much longer. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 20:18, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
