Maithili (मैथिली / মৈথিলী) is a language spoken in Nepal and northern Bihar. It is mainly spoken in places like Madhesh Pradesh, Koshi Pradesh, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, Saharsa, Madhepura, Supaul, Purnia, Araria, Katihar and some adjoining districts. It is spoken in the Terai region of Nepal. Vidyapati was a famous Maithili poet. Maithili is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India. It is also one of the most spoken languages of India and second most spoken Nepalese language of Nepal.
