Welcome

[edit]

Hello, JakeOregon! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.

Thanks for your edits to so many Oregon articles! -- Ryan (talk) 00:55, 12 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the welcome, Ryan. Do you think the Seaside (Oregon) article is ready for Usable status? --JakeOregon (talk) 01:21, 12 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

It's definitely at least a usable article. You might want to add descriptions of the neighboring towns to the "Go next" section, but it's looking nice. -- Ryan (talk) 01:41, 12 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I just wanted to add an additional note to say that all of your listing updates have definitely been noticed and appreciated - thanks! -- Ryan (talk) 04:28, 16 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'd like to second that. You've made yourself a valuable contributor already, in the short time you've been here. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:10, 17 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

You fixed a blunder I'd made in Indigenous cultures of North America; it had not occurred to me that the indentation was deliberate. Pashley (talk) 01:30, 18 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

9/11 sites

Jake, where are the sites you just added to the article? It's not that helpful if we don't tell readers where they are. Ground Zero (talk) 08:58, 21 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Patroller

[edit]

If you were a patroller, you would be able to revert edits easier. User:Ikan Kekek, I'm sure this isn't within my abilities. Do you agree that JakeOregon should become a patroller? JakeOregon, would you be okay with being a patroller? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 02:39, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sure, that sounds helpful when handling repeated vandalism. Is that the "rollback" feature I've seen in other's edit summaries? And is there a public discussion or is the patroller function given directly by an administrator? JakeOregon (talk) 05:01, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I would think it would be within your abilities, SelfieCity. Did you check and see whether that is an option for you under "User contributions -> user rights management"? I think any admin can make someone a patroller, but if I'm wrong and you don't see the option, let me know and I'll gladly take care of this. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:53, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek: According to the "Change user groups" button, it says there are three things I can do: add autopatroller status (not patroller), make an IP block exemption, and allow a user to make template edits. But I can't add patroller status.
We don't have many patrollers, and I think we could do with having a few more. They're useful for patrolling edits and rolling back edits with one press of a button, but don't require nominations.
Also, JakeOregon, you will find WV:Recent changes patrol relevant. It gives you the ability to mark certain edits as not harmful. And while not everything at the administrator's handbook is relevant to you currently, the section about rollbacks is relevant. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:31, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK, got it. We probably should do a nomination at WV:Administrator nominations. Sorry I didn't think of that yesterday. I'll make the nom now. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:30, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Go to that link to see the nomination. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:36, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Apparently, no nomination was needed. I've flipped the switch. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:22, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Admin?

[edit]

Hi, JakeOregon.

Would you like to be an admin? If you are an admin, you will be able to block spammers and vandals. I think you've shown yourself to be trustworthy and I don't expect a nomination to be controversial, though I couldn't be absolutely sure. Is this something you'd like to do?

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:39, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I would support and administrator nomination for you if we had one. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:18, 9 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I'd be happy to pick up the mop if there's support. Thank you for this nomination. I've certainly read through the Wikivoyage: Administrators and have tried to follow discussions regarding handling persistent vandalism, but is there some sort of training on the finer points? JakeOregon (talk) 00:52, 10 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Generally, I'd say that if you follow policy, think before you speak, and remain open to the opinions of others, you should be a good admin. I will nominate you now. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 01:09, 10 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I agree with SelfieCity on this. I'd also say that if you're in doubt, you should feel free to ask any other admin or trusted longtimer for advice. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:05, 10 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
And I agree with Ikan Kekek on that one; feel free to ask you if you have questions. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 02:22, 10 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Adding new listings

[edit]

If you're going to add new listings to articles, please fill out the "content=" section. Naked bullet points, without any context for what the place is and why it's a significant destination, do not help the traveller. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 05:34, 9 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Casino Pier in Seaside Heights

[edit]

Hopefully during the edit conflicts I haven't accidentally deleted any of your edits.

However, I was wondering about Casino Pier. Should be a "do" listing or a "buy" listing, do you think? I have no local knowledge and I don't mind either way. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 23:56, 15 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

No problem, I didn't lose anything but one way or another the Casino Pier listing I edited ended up under "Parades". There's a second listing under "Other attractions" so those should probably be consolidated. As for what section it goes under, I don't have local knowledge either, but from the website it's an amusement park with a few rides, midway games, etc. and a nearby water park (which might be mentioned). Per Where you can stick it, amusement parks and mini-golf both go under "Do". JakeOregon (talk) 00:11, 16 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
OK, thanks! That’s what I was thinking. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 00:15, 16 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the rollbacks

[edit]

Just now and sometime last week. I'm editing in a car (as a passenger, I hasten to add) and the finger slips all too easily. ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 09:32, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
