He lures the factor's daughter by means of a forged note, the girl believing that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer is to meet her so that they might elope. The red-coated hero learns of the plan and starts in pursuit. As the girl and the rum-runner are being carried toward the falls, the paddle breaks and they are helpless in their canoe.
