LaBay issued the following statement regarding his bid for office:
“ | I am a native Nevadan who was born, raised, and educated in Las Vegas. Over the course of my life, I have watched my fellow Nevadans struggle with unemployment, home foreclosures, rampant crime, and a failing education system. Although politicians repeatedly promised to correct these and other problems faced by real Nevadans, their so-called dedication to their constituents disappeared as soon as they were elected. In 2015, this problem became readily apparent when the Legislature did little more than raise taxes.
Following the 2015 Legislative Session, I decided to run to for the State Assembly because I know from experience that representation is not about one’s own needs and wants. As a State Commissioner, for example, I have diligently worked on behalf Nevada’s children. Similarly, during my time at the William S. Boyd School of Law I have demonstrated my commitment to representing underprivileged Nevadans by completing more pro bono hours than required for graduation. Admittedly, I am also running for State Assembly because the issues that affect my constituents also affect my family and friends. Indeed, as a recently married Nevadan, I have real concerns about what it means to raise a family in Las Vegas, especially for those of us who cannot afford private schools. I also worry about safety because of the growing number of perpetrators who have no regard for the law or the lives of others. And, like many of you, my friends and family struggle with the difficulties caused by unemployment and underemployment. [2] |
