Monks' website highlighted the following campaign themes:[14]

  • Taxes
Excerpt: "I believe that your money is actually yours; it is not the governments, they didn’t give it to you. You earned it and should get to keep it. It is not the role of government to redistribute wealth from those that created jobs, and created wealth and give it to those that did not."
  • Size and Scope of Government
Excerpt: "The government has exceeded the original intent of the Constitution. The government should not get involved with those things that individuals can do for themselves."
  • School Budget
Excerpt: "My children have experienced first hand what budget cuts have forced schools to do. ...The real problem is that we don’t have enough funds to go around. Instead of solely focusing on where to cut educational spending; I will support legislation that will encourage job growth that will bring more money into the state."
  • Students Come First
Excerpt: "After speaking with many educators, and tax payers I’ve come to the conclusion that the biggest problem we face in regards to the Students Come First initiative is a lack of communication and cooperation."
  • Right to Life
Excerpt: "I am a firm believer and supporter of the rights of the unborn. I am proud to have the endorsement of Idaho Chooses Life and will do everything I can to protect the rights of the unborn."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Idaho

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
