DataIQ has announced its 2024 list of the top 100 most influential people in data and analytics in the USA, and we are thrilled to see Ido Biger, EVP, Chief Technology and Digital Officer at Delek US Holdings, Inc., ranked #10! Last year, at the 2023 Commercial UAV News Expo in Las Vegas, our co-founder and CEO, Eszter Kovács had the privilege of interviewing him about their company’s groundbreaking achievements in BVLOS drone operations. Delek US has become the first in the US to receive FAA approval for BVLOS operations in a refinery. They have assets in petroleum refining, logistics, renewable fuels, and convenience store retailing with operations span multiple refineries in Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana, producing a combined total of 302,000 barrels of crude oil per day. While exact financial figures are still being measured, Ido highlighted that their drone solutions are saving Delek US hundreds of thousands of dollars annually per site! How will future cities manage the skies? This was a central question at the 2023 Aerial Cities conference, where our panel explored the evolving competition for aerial real estate, focusing on the development of vertiports. We kicked off our 5-day training event in the vibrant city of Barcelona on Monday, June 10th, 2024. This event, co-hosted by DroneTalks Academy, Murzilli Consulting and BCN Drone Center, brings together industry leaders to learn more about the complexities of UAS regulations and the Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA 2.5) from our expert teachers, Lorenzo Murzilli, Yves Morier, Juan José Sola and Lluís Amat Olóndriz. The first day started with a warm welcome and an introductory session that set the stage for the detailed learning that followed. Our attendees dived into the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regulations, followed by an impressive flight demo focusing on U-Space Remote ID. This hands-on approach not only grounded the theoretical knowledge in practical reality but also highlighted the dynamic field of UAS operations. Our training is not just about learning; it’s also a prime opportunity for networking. Attendees are engaging with peers and leaders, sharing experiences, and discussing future collaborations. The flight demos, particularly those scheduled for the upcoming days, including operations for contingency and emergency procedures and BVLOS operational authorization, are among the highlights, providing real-world applications of the discussed concepts.
