More than 10,000 pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched through central London on Saturday (July 6), with some participants calling on the new government of Prime Minister Keir Starmer to be more assertive in pushing for an immediate ceasefire. Starmer’s Labour Party won a massive majority in Parliament in general elections held this week, sweeping the ruling Conservative Party from power after 14 years. Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who joined the protest, called on Starmer to immediately end weapons sales to Gaza and to press in the U.N. for an immediate ceasefire. Palestinian flags briefly mingled with Israeli ones as the protest passed under a bridge, where supporters of Israel held a wildcat counter-protest.
