In a move that will completely overhaul the criminal justice system in the country, three new criminal laws will come into effect from today, July 1. "The way the laws have been rushed to the Parliament and the way implementation is sought to be rushed through is not desirable in a democracy. It was not adequately discussed in the Parliamentary committees and there was no extensive discussion about these bills in the house. Opposition has been demanding that this change in the legal architecture of criminal laws should be proceeded by meaningful deliberations between all stakeholders, that appears not to have been done," Former Union Law Minister and Senior Advocate Ashwini Kumar said. "I feel like that summary of so many decisions of Supreme Court has been put into these new laws. There was a criticism that our system is delayed, so a solution was required to solve this. They have said that now the judgement should come within 30 days," Geeta Luthra, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India said.
