The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has raised concerns over the new National Medical Commission (NMC) logo, which depicts the Hindu deity Dhanvantari. The IMA has urged the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and the health minister to intervene and take "corrective action". Sharad Kumar Agarwal, the national president of the IMA, stated that they have sent a letter to the PMO and the health minister expressing their concerns and seeking appropriate action.

The IMA called upon the NMC to adopt a "religion neutrality" logo which does not contradict the oath and duty of doctors. It asked the NMC to adopt complete neutrality, especially in shunning any attempt to connect or identify the commission with any particular religion.

"NMC as of today has done precious little to better medical education in the country. The government should put an end to the deviant running of the NMC by recasting this premier national institution," said the letter.
