President Joe Biden said that he had an appointment with a doctor who has medically cleared him after the first presidential debate. This is contradictory to what the White House had said earlier. These comments were made by Biden during his in person and video interaction with the Governors of Democrat ruled states. This statement by the President has led to some embarrassment for the officials in the White House who had maintained that the president was medically fit and had not consulted any physician after reports of a ‘cognitive decline’ had emerged.

    Doctor’s consultation:

The meeting of Democrat Governors was organized by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz who is the Chairman of the Democratic Governors Association. This meeting was organized to address the concerns surrounding the president’s health as well as laying down the path for the future, ahead of the poll in November.

Biden said that he had consulted a doctor immediately after the first debate. He said that he had been cleared by the Doctor. This statement by the president seeks to allay concerns pertaining to his continuation in office, if he were to win the election for a second term.

Does Biden’s statement contradict the official position of the White House?

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had earlier said that Biden had not undergone any medical check-up since February when he had undergone a full body check -up. This is the statement that Biden contradicted during his interaction with the Governors.

It was later clarified by White House Spokesperson Andrew Bates that the president was suffering from a cold and had checked on it. He added that he was recovering well and he did not undergo any neurological scan.

    Biden’s comments on the debate:

In a radio interview with a Wisconsin station that was aired on Thursday, the president acknowledged that he had messed up the debate. Though he was quick to add that his performance during his first term is what the voters will judge him for and not a 90-minute debate.
