Rafael Nadal ends season with confidence-boosting win over Casper Ruud. Watch highlightsAgencies
Ending the year on a high note, tennis star Rafael Nadal has secured his first ATP Finals victory in Turin. He defeated Casper Ruud by 7-5, 7-5 in the season's last match, which lasted for one hour and forty-three minutes. The 22-time Grand Slam champion conceded only six games to Ruud in the Roland Garros final this June. However, faced with an injury and a declining form, Nadal had to work hard to remain unbeaten against Ruud in Turin, and he did it in style.

Although Nadal lost the opening round-robin encounters against Taylor Fritz and Felix Auger-Aliassime, the Spanish tennis star looked determined to end the season with a win. Nadal dominated the match against the young Norwegian and dropped 11 points in his games. He fended off two break points in the closing stages of the first set, keeping Ruud under constant pressure. The Norwegian gave a strong fightback against Nadal but was not able to overcome the fury of the Spaniard.

By winning his last game of the season, Nadal ended the year as the World No. 2. The Spaniard was also able to snap his 4-match losing streak since the US Open. However, he would not be able to advance to the semi-finals due to his initial defeats on the tour. Meanwhile, Ruud would enter the semi-final as he finished on top of the group despite losing to Nadal.
