Making no assumptions: Pentagon
Pentagon has also said it is not making any assumptions this way or the other. They have not seen any evidence that these objects are non-terrestrial in origin. The have not ruled out the possibility either, because they can't explain many of the phenomena.

Reason for rise?
What might be the reason for the increase over the past two decades? Pentagon believes it is due to two reasons. One, efforts by the US military to destigmatize the reporting of UFO sightings. Two, technological advances.
