    NGO to organise marathon in Sonepat against violence on women

    As part of its efforts to spread awareness against atrocities on women, an NGO will be organising a marathon on this Sunday in Sonepat of Haryana.

    NEW DELHI: As part of its efforts to spread awareness against atrocities on women, an NGO will be organising a marathon on this Sunday in Sonepat of Haryana.

    The NGO - 'Chaupal' - will be organising its "Fourth Chaupal Marathon" on November 22 which will start from Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University and end at the Chaupal Community Health Centre, covering a total distance of 12 kms.

    About 10,000 runners from North India are expected to participate in the event organised by the internationally- recognised NGO which is run by health professionals.

    "This year, through our Chaupal Marathon initiative, we want to raise awareness about preventing social atrocities against women and educate the masses about honouring women. Large number of people, including women and children, will participate in the event," founder and chairperson of Chaupal Rajinder Singh Tonk said.

    "The idea is to also to inculcate the habit of running among youth and produce long distance runners from the district for India," Dr Tonk added.

    A cash price of Rs 51,000 will be awarded to the runner placed first in the open race. Many other cash awards will be given to the winners in different race categories.
