    A cardiac surgeon, a robot, and the Make in India dream

    Synopsis

    At a time when Make in India was all show no substance, a cardiac surgeon gave up his life savings to show the true meaning of the agenda and bring affordable healthcare to India.

    Cardiac surgeon Sudhir Srivastava wasn't always particularly interested in cutting open his patients. In the late ’90s, he set up Alliance Hospital in Texas to achieve a goal close to his heart — make it a centre for minimally invasive and robotic surgeries. The endeavour was successful. By 2005, the hospital had conducted 750 robotic cases in cardiology. Many hospitals across the world started inviting Srivastava to gain from his expertise. One
