HYDERABAD: Dodgy Ramalinga Raju is proving to be a hard nut to crack even for the seasoned interrogators of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) questioning him, his brother Rama Raju and former CFO Vadlamani Srinivas in the multi-crore scam.

On the second day of police custody, Raju proved to be a tough cookie either bluntly refusing to answer his interrogators or simply feigning ignorance, or sometimes saying that he was feeling feverish. Doctors who examined him, however, say he was in good health. For someone who confessed that he has cooked up the companys books for years and went around with a poker face in public, Raju has surely mastered the art of dodging.

The result? The CID has reportedly not been able to extract anything substantial from him.

The CID, which employs its own methods of extracting informationthough not necessarily third degree , which physically harm the accused in custody do help in cracking the accused. But thats for the ordinary criminals and not for highprofile varieties like Raju and company.

One method is that the accused is not allowed to have proper sleep. When the accused is feeling drowsy, investigators who take turns to question him take advantage of his condition and extract information, a CID source said.

Further, stymying the CIDs efforts, the court has put restrictions on it that he should not be questioned at night.
