    Common Service Centre stops BharatNet fibre maintenance as dues mount

    Synopsis

    CSC is a special purpose vehicle set up by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the Companies Act, 1956. BharatNet is a government initiative to connect all 600,000 villages in the country to high-speed internet through an optic fibre network.

    The government’s Common Service Centre (CSC) – which provides e-services to rural and remote regions - has stopped operating and maintaining BharatNet’s fibre optic cables and other equipment following a lack of clearance of its dues by Bharat Broadband Network Ltd (BBNL), multiple sources in the know told ET. CSC is a special purpose vehicle set up by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the Companies Act, 1956.
