    Second Chinese vessel carrying ship-to-shore crane for Vizhinjam port docks at facility

    A second Chinese vessel carrying a ship-to-shore crane for the Vizhinjam international deep-sea facility in Kerala has docked at the port. The ship, Zhen Hua 29, received clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to berth, arriving on November 9.

    The second Chinese ship, Zhen Hua 29, is set to arrive at the international deep-sea facility in Vizhinjam, India, on November 9. It will carry one ship-to-shore crane for Vizhinjam port and several yard cranes for Mundra port. The vessel will offload the crane and then depart for Mundra port in Gujarat.

    Located near the southernmost tip of the country, the Vizhinjam transshipment container port — the first of its kind in India that will be inaugurated on Oct. 15 — will allow India to grab a bigger slice of the international maritime trade currently dominated by China. It will also bolster its aspirations to be an alternative manufacturing hub by reducing logistics costs for cargo coming to and from the country.
