At CAiRS, although our core technologies are based on innovative AI methodologies, physical field work is also equally important to us. Fieldwork allows us to understand the needs of our collaborators and clients better in their home grounds. As a research centre, CAiRS has a remit to engage in the dissemination of technical knowledge. One of our research programme managers was invited earlier in the year to deliver a technical lecture to a group of final year engineering undergraduate students at PolyU, as part of their syllabus. It was on the topic of Reliability and Safety in Design, Manufacturing, Operation and Maintenance of Product and System. We are very fortunate to be able to count on our R&D teams at work, whether it is out and about under the midday sun in the summer, or engaging with a group of young people for 3 hours in a lecture hall. 作為一個科研中心，CAiRS也有責任傳播技術知識。今年初，我們的一位研發項目經理受邀為理大一班最後一年的工程學本科生發表技術講座，作為他們學習範圍的一部分。主題是產品和系統的設計、製造、操作和維護的可靠性和安全性。 無論是在夏天正午的陽光下外出，還是在演講廳與一群年輕人進行3個小時的技術知識交流，我們很幸運能夠在工作上有一隊值得信賴的的研發團隊。 #R&DAtWork #CAiRSWork #OutOfOffice

Into the beginning of the month, we have continued to be busy with a variety of visits both at and away from CAiRS. We received visitors from Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Limited, Kai Shing Management Services Limited, Airport Freight Forwarding Centre, and Parking Systems Limited. They showed keen interest in our various solutions related to infrastructural services and potential project collaborations were discussed. The management of our marketing and business development team also attended the E&M I&T Day 2024 event, organized by EMSD and the HKSTP. The focus on the event was on AI application in E&M industries. At CAiRS, we are always open to explore potential corporate opportunities and technology advancement in all relevant applications. The 22nd International Meeting on Lithium Batteries (IMLB2024) was held between 16-21 June 2024 at the AsiaWorld-Expo. Our group of CAiRS researchers who specialize in innovative battery technologies presented two posters on this occasion. One of the presented materials, on the topic of Integration of Fiber Optic Sensing with Galvanostatic Intermittent Titration for Health Monitoring of Lithium-ion Batteries, was awarded the Best Poster Award. Many congratulations to the team and thank you for their progress in the field. We were delighted to host a visit at CAiRS for a cohort of around 40 students and their lecturers from the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, and three university colleges from Malaysia as part of their Malaysia-Hong Kong Cultural Exchange Programme 2024. This visit was coordinated by our sister @InnoHK centre, AiDLab. We gave some general overviews of the projects conducted at CAiRS. Although these students are not from a typical engineering background, they still show keen interest in the work that we do and the use of innovative AI technologies in real-time applications. At CAiRS, we always welcome an opportunity to engage and share with young people the current trends at work. Wednesday (12/06) is the HKSTPxArrow Hardware Lab Innovation Day, for the celebration of the first year of collaborative achievements between the HKSTP and Arrow Electronics, and an opportunity to explore the latest in Microelectronics and Electronics Engineering technology with a variety of exhibitors at the Hong Kong Science Park. We are delighted that our research project leader, Prof. Michael G. Pecht, Distinguished Professor and Director, CALCE Electronic Products and Systems Center, University of Maryland (UMD), will be delivering one of the two keynote speeches of the event, on the topic of Advances in Microelectronics Qualification. Our Senior Consultant, Ir Prof. Winco Yung, will also be a moderator for one of the two panel discussions during the event, on the topic of Microelectronics Innovation and How to Bring it to Real Applications and Market. During this month, we have been busy with a variety of visits both at and away from CAiRS. We received visitors from CLP and ATAL, who showed keen interest in our various solutions related to infrastructural services. We also visited Wurth Electronik and the E&M InnoZone at EMSD, in which we had an opportunity to be shown some innovative aspects of their work. We were also delighted to host a visit at CAiRS for a delegation of advanced research and innovative enterprises led by the Nanjing University (NJU). The delegation is made up of senior management and partners from the technological and commercial sectors. The management gave various overviews of the operation of CAiRS. At CAiRS, we are always open to complementary exchanges of potential corporate and academic interests. We were honoured to attend the InnoEx 2024, jointly organized by the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government (ITIB, HKSARG) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai from 13th to 16th April 2024. This is the second year of us in attendance of this event, in which we had the opportunity to showcase our innovative technologies and AI methodologies in reliability and safety solutions. There were audience and interests in our work from diverse backgrounds, and from all applications big and small. Thank you for keeping us busy during the event. It has been nearly a month since we returned from our invaluable trip to the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2024. We would like to thank IFIA again for bestowing us with one of the two Prize of the International Federation of Inventors’ Association awards, for the Best Invention at the event this year. We are pleased to announce that we successfully participated in the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2024 as an exhibitor for the first time. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University won a total of 45 awards, of which PolyU's three InnoHK R&D Centres (@InnoHK) won a total of 19 awards.  Among these 19 awards, CAiRS has 12, 1 gold with Prize of the International Federation of Inventors’ Association (IFIA), 2 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze awards respectively for all of our 11 entries. This is the first time that we participated in such a large-scale event on the international stage. We are grateful that our bespoke R&D endeavours in innovative technologies on reliability and safety matters can be warmly welcomed by the international inventions’ community in this prestigious event.   We are proud of our team’s efforts and achievements at the Exhibition. These achievements rely on the dedication and hard work of our team. Sophisticated technologies are used by CAiRS to improve the reliability and safety of products and systems and predict remaining useful lives, by applying different artificial intelligence models and testing techniques. Although CAiRS has only been in operation for just over four and a half years, the honour of receiving the awards is a global recognition of our contribution to the world of innovation. We would like to thank the team at CAiRS and the researchers for their technical expertise and enthusiasm in their work. We would also like to thank our collaborative partners, institutions, and supporting organizations for giving us the opportunities to apply our work in real-time and practical deployment.
