The report from the New Car Assessment Programme said the sedan successfully obtained a total score of 83.47 points from the adult occupant protection (AOP), child occupant protection (COP), safety assist technologies (SAT) and motorcyclist safety (MS) domains.

It scored 29.27 out of 32 in the AOP category, 46.72 out of 51 points in the COP category, 19.07 points for SATs out of a possible 21 and 8.32 out of 16 in MS.

The sedan crash-tested by ASEAN NCAP was a Thailand-spec Civic that was manufactured this year.

The ASEAN NCAP test report said that there was adequate protection for the dummies’ chest and lower legs in a frontal crash. In a side crash, the head and chest received good protection.

The safety features that helped the Civic score a 5-star rating were automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning system, forward-collision warning system, and others.

"Most importantly, the new Honda Civic now comes with AEB for Motorcycle, which is the first of such technology in South East Asia," the report said.
