BITS Pilani to launch School of Interdisciplinary Research & Entrepreneurship

Synopsis

BITS Pilani, one of India's leading educational institutions, is set to launch a new online platform called the School of Interdisciplinary Research and Entrepreneurship (SIRE). This innovative initiative aims to bring together individuals from diverse academic backgrounds to collaborate on research and innovation.

Bengaluru: BITS Pilani is launching an online platform, the School of Interdisciplinary Research and Entrepreneurship (SIRE), to bring people from diversified academic areas to work together on research and innovation.

The primary activity of SIRE would be to offer various interdisciplinary PhD programmes, including PhD DRIVE (Deep-tech Research, Innovation, Value generation & Entrepreneurship).

The entity would also manage existing interdisciplinary research and innovation programs such as CDRF (Cross-Disciplinary Research Framework), PhD programmes under various centres of excellence, SPARKLE (Student Program for Advancing Research, KnowLedge, and Entrepreneurship) and SOLVE (targeted at solving societal and business problems).


This department at BITS Pilani will be headed by professor Hitesh Datt Mathur.

“This exciting initiative reflects BITS Pilani's commitment to giving everyone a chance to do advanced collaborative research,” Sanket Goel, dean, Research and Innovation (Institute-wide) and a professor at BITS Pilani Hyderabad, said in a statement.

Currently, BITS Pilani has a pool of around 75 PhD scholars and it plans to recruit an additional 30 PhD scholars by March 2024 under the PhD DRIVE scheme. In its initial phase, SIRE is set to welcome close to a hundred scholars into its cohort.

SIRE is not only focused on PhD programmes but will also be developing various Masters and minor programmes, emphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of the school, BITS Pilani said
