Cannes 2023: Palme d'Or awardee Michael Douglas praises India at the pavilion, Madhur Bhandarkar's fan boy moment

Hollywood star Michael Douglas, who bagged the Palme d'Or award at Cannes 2023, said he was "impressed with the energy, imagination and creativity in India."

Two days after Michael Douglas was awarded the prestigious Palme d'Or, the Hollywood star was honoured at the India Pavilion.

He met the members of the Indian Pavilion - Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan and singer-actor Shailendra Singh - and was all-praises for the country.

The 78-year-old called India a rock and said he was "impressed with the energy, imagination and creativity in India."


Douglas also mentioned his actress-wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, whose love for India is an open secret. He said that his wife is a "great Bollywood dancer." The couple have been to India on several occasions.


Meanwhile, director Madhur Bhandarkar had a fan boy moment after he met Douglas on Thursday at the red carpet. Sharing pictures from his meeting, the film-maker showered the Hollywood legend with words of appreciation.

He captioned his post, "My fan moment with the charismatic and legendary Michael Douglas sir at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, Indian Pavilion."

The MoS said he was delighted to meet the legendary actor Michael and have a wonderful discussion with him.

Earlier this week, actresses Esha Gupta and Sara Ali Khan, actor Vijay Varma and actress-politician Khushbu Sundar also joined the Indian Pavilion to inaugurate the official poster of the 54th International Film Festival of India, which is held in Goa.

The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival 2023, which started on May 16, will conclude on May 27. Established in 1946, the festival serves as a platform for filmmakers to showcase their works and compete for prestigious awards, including the Palme d'Or, which is the highest prize awarded at the festival.
