upGrad hires senior execs to boost operational efficiency

Educational technology startup upGrad has appointed Shailesh Mahale as head of corporate human resources, Kumar Anshu as HR head for its working professional, study abroad, and offline segment, and elevated Vandana Kaushik Goel as head of HR for upGrad’s enterprise arm. These appointments aim to enhance operational efficiency and employee engagement across the Mumbai-headquartered company

Educational tech startup upGrad has appointed Shailesh Mahale as head of corporate human resources and Kumar Anshu as HR head of its working professional, study abroad and offline segment. Vandana Kaushik Goel, head-HR at Centum Learning (part of upGrad), has been elevated as head of HR for upGrad’s enterprise arm.

The appointments are aimed at increasing operational efficiency and employee engagement across the organisation, said a statement from Mumbai-headquartered upGrad, an integrated learning, skilling and workforce development company.

Mahale will lead upGrad’s corporate HR functions, including operations and digitisation, employee experience, payroll and compliance, and HR audits. He has worked with Zepto, TCS, Dow Chemicals and HDFC Life Insurance.


Anshu, the company said, has 15 years of experience across business HR, consultancy, HR strategy and software engineering across organisations including OLX Group, EY LLP, Siemens and Wipro. He has led transformation and strategic initiatives in his earlier roles.

Goel has more than 17 years of experience in the HR domain across sectors such as education, software, and professional services. She will continue to lead the company’s HR business, partnering across its entire enterprise arm.

“With the rapidly evolving business landscape, it’s important that we bolster our HR capabilities to ensure seamless operations and an enriching employee experience,” said Saurabh Deep Singla, CHRO at upGrad in a statement. “These strategic hires are not just tasked with traditional HR functions but would be instrumental in shaping the future of skilling and workforce development.”

As it nears a decade, upGrad has bolstered its leadership team with key hires over the last 9-10 months, evolving into an organisation comprising nearly 5,000 employees, said Singla.
