Earlier, the main opposition DMK and the rival AIADMK faction led by former chief minister O Panneerselvam, demanded a secret ballot so that MLAs can vote according to their conscience and not fear repercussions.

While MLAs in opposition DMK, Congress and team Pannerselvam continued to raise demands stalling the voting, MLAs in support of chief minister Palaniswamy were seen remaining calm and maintaining order.

Scenes began getting unruly as opposition MLAs rushed to the Speaker’s chair and surrounded the Speaker. As soon as the speaker P Dhanapal was escorted out of the hall by the secretariat staff, a DMK MLA occupied the speaker’s chair briefly as papers books were being flung across the hall.Whatsapp Banner
