Modi's habit is to lie, mislead people: RS LoP Mallikarjun Kharge after Oppn MP's stage walkout during PM's speech

Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge defends Oppn walkout, claims PM Modi spreading lies

Synopsis

Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of lying during a speech about the Constitution. He alleged that the opposition was against the Constitution and that the RSS had opposed it since 1950. NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar supported Kharge, stating that it was the House's responsibility to respect the LoP.

After the Congress-led Opposition staged a walkout in Rajya Sabha, the leader of Opposition in the upper House Mallikarjun Kharge said that they walked out from the House because Prime Minister Narendra Modi was speaking some 'wrong things' during the reply to the motion of thanks.

"It's his habit to lie, mislead people and say things beyond truth. I have just asked him that, when he was speaking about the Constitution, you didn't make the Constitution, you people were against it," Kharge alleged.

He further said, "I just wanted to clarify who was for Constitution and who was against it. RSS wrote in their editorial in 1950 that the bad thing about the Constitution is that there is nothing about India's history. They opposed the Constitution. They are against it since the beginning and they say that they are for it. Effigies of Ambedkar, Nehru were burnt. Now they are saying that we are against it."

NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar also came in support of Kharge and said that it is the House's responsibility to respect the LoP.

"He (Mallikarjun Kahrge) is on a constitutional post. Be it the PM or the Chairman of the House, it's their responsibility to respect him, but today it was all ignored and hence the entire opposition is with him, and hence we walked out," Pawar said.

As the incumbent prime minister was speaking the Opposition continued with their sloganeering saying 'LoP ko bolne do' (let the LoP speak), disrupting the house.

As the Opposition walked out, PM Modi took a dig at them saying that the country is watching that those spreading lies don't have courage to listen to truth.

"The country is watching that those who spread lies do not have the strength to hear the truth. Those who do not dare to face the truth, do not dare to listen to the answers to questions that were raised in these discussions. They are insulting the Upper House, the glorious tradition of the Upper House", said the Prime Minister.

RS Chair Dhankar's attack
Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar criticised the INDIA bloc MPs. "The opposition members have challenged the Constitution, outraged the spirit of the Constitution, and disregarded the oath they took," he said.

LoP Kharge "insulted" oath to the office by walking out of the Upper House, he added.

"Khargeji insulted oath of the office through the walkout. They (opposition MPs) have made a mockery of the Constitution. I hope they introspect," Dhankar said.

"I urged them the LoP was given adequate time to speak without any interruptions. Today, they did not leave the House behind, they have left behind dignity. Today, they did not show me their back, they showed it to the Constitution of India. They did not insult me or you, they insulted the oath of the Constitution that they took", he said.

He further condemned the walkout by the opposition MPs and said that there can be no "bigger insult" to the Constitution of India.

"There can be no bigger insult to the Constitution of India than this...I condemn their conduct...It is an occasion where they have challenged the Indian Constitution. They outraged the spirit of the Indian Constitution, they disregarded the oath they had undertaken...Indian Constitution is not something to hold in your hands, it is the book to way of life. I hope that they will self-introspect and walk that path of duty", he said.
