Synopsis

India’s West Asia geo-economic gambit – the new IMEC infra project – is seen as a response to China’s BRI. The ambitious rail and shipping project announced on the sidelines of G20 is envisaged to challenge China’s economic clout. It leaves both China and Turkey guessing despite being on the G20 table in New Delhi. Will IMEC shape a new world reality?

After China powered the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) a decade ago, G20’s biggest announcement--the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is grabbing headlines. India, the US, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union (EU) announced probably the boldest geopolitical initiative to counter BRI. Interestingly Turkey has been the first country that has openly come out and counter the India-Middle East trade
