Synopsis

There is a lot that the government’s reaction to the alleged CoWIN breach, as well as previous breaches including Kudankulam nuclear power plant’s malware issues in 2019 and last year’s AIIMS ransomware attack, reveal about the state of cybersecurity in India.

It has been three days since the reports of a Telegram bot sharing personal information of users of CoWIN, the Indian government platform for Covid-19 vaccinations, started swirling around. And after three days the country is no closer to feeling that the data of its citizens that the government collects is in safe hands.
